Hello folks, building the Model Shipways Bluenose. This site has been a great resource for me and I appreciate all that post their very informative build logs. I’m wondering if there is CAD or vector file of the Bluenose lettering and graphics. I would like to create accurate stick on stencils so I can airbrush the lettering and graphics.

Thanks

Ray

Hi Ray - Wow, it's been 3 years since I was working on my Bluenose, so I am trying to remember exactly how I created all of the scrollwork and lettering, but my recollection (and my review of various Word docs I had saved) is that I created almost all of it in Word documents (I'm not a CAD-type person... way too complex for me!).

After creating it, I printed it on laser waterslide decal paper and placed it on the ship. Here are a couple pictures of how mine turned out. Not as good as some CAD graphics may provide but it suited me well. Happy to share those Word docs that I created at the time, if you don't come up with a better alternative.

Best wishes on your Bluenose! I really enjoyed building mine!

Thanks for the offer! I just may go the decal route like you and others have done if I can’t find a file for my vinyl cutter! Your lettering looks great! Please send me your files. I may be able to convert the images to vector files.

Hi Ray.
Is my assumption correct that you are building a model of the ‘Original’ Bluenose?
On the stern of ‘Original’ the graphics are on the ‘Monkey-board’ and by the BN-II on the transom it self.

About the ‘Original’: Please take a note of the discussions about the graphics on the stern of the Bluenose:
—> Discussion in YQ-BN-Area <— with the 2 different symbols
—> Lettering and Floral Decoration <—
About the scroll I made —> this post <— in my own build-log. With my result —> here <—.
In —> post #1 of this thread <—I inserted a excel-file with a list of BN-builds with in the second part a list of other Model Shipways builds. Perhaps it is helpful with the rest of your build.
Perhaps a option to start a build-log yourself? A BN-build is always interesting. For sure now with 4 active build!
Regards, Peter

Excellent references Peter! Thank-you for taking the time to put this together! I did find your build log ledger and have been using it. Again, very grateful to all that have posted their build logs. I have not found anyone who has actually painted on the lettering and graphics so I will be forging that path forward. I’ve done it on my model aircraft with excellent results. GGibson has been helpful in sharing his images which are very clear and hopefully can convert to SVG files for my vinyl printer to make the paint masks. I have a build log that I have created for my own use. It’s in excel format. Is there a way I can share that here? Would that be of some value to others?
