...to avoid spending years learning Arts and painting. Are there other ways to represent paintings other than actually painting? I guess with proper surface preparation decals should look pretty good.

You d have a big variaty in acrylic pens, which is easier then painting.
If the surface is flat you can use the technique with colour laser print and clear coat I used for the table top in my RC. That technique is giving fantastic results without being a Rembrandt.
