Professional Building Jigs

Check out @Vince P. (Current post on his Amati kit. -Looks like he’s using the lower jig you posted above.

Thanks for adding the post/link. I’m working on forum navigation.

I’m tying to decide between the two Jigs.

The keel on my Seguin build is about 21in/54cm long, but measuring from the top of the stem to the overhang at the stern the length is 25.5 in/65cm. The specs for the smaller jig are 60 - 80cm, with the ideal length being 60cm. But it looks like the larger jig allows for more versatility.

The other caveat is the keel height. I don’t see a measurement for the keel depth on the jig. The Seguin plan shows 3/8in/10mm for the keel height. The frames/ bulkheads have an 3/32in/4mm indent for mounting on the keel.

The larger jig seems to me to better for what I’m trying to accomplish. It looks like the keel would sit up on the jig vs. being clamped into the slot on the smaller jig.

After re-reading the large jig Instructions several times I finally stumbled on the link for building the smaller jig.

I’m still trying to figure out which jig to try, or maybe design and build my own version.

Hi Vince I reall hate to give advice to such a GREAT BUILDER, but I have this keel height problem many times, WHAT I DO IS SPOT GLUE A PIECE LIKE A 1/4 inch X 1/4 inch strip to the bottom of the keel and it is not difficult to remove it without doing any damage as how i remove it after gluing as i have a lot of expeiernce in do overs have tried this method on both PVA GLUES AND CA GLUES AND IT WORKS WHAT DO IS USE NAIL POLISH REMOVER THAT HAS 100% ACOTONE (IT HAS TO BE 100%) PUT IT ON WITH A COTTON SWAB AND USE AND EXACTO BLADE TO PRY IT LOOSE DO NOT EVER FORCE JUST KEEP PUTTING THE ACOTONE ON AND KEEP PRYING IT WILL COME APART WITH NO DAMAGE I HAVE BEEN SUCESSFUl many times

This is why the forum is so great. "Standing on the shoulders of giants". PS just ordered the bigger jig from Hobbyzone - the forum also gives me too many "wishes" that I cannot refuse- any ideas how to boost my self control ?
