HANNA obtained from Lumberyard

Janet, lovely work, what was your procedure to thin the forward frames/stantions to the half width? Which tooling did you use? Thanks, Lou
Hi Asat. Thank you for your interest in my HANNA build, thinning down the frame/ stantions i found was a little challenging it is very easy
to get them all differant. In the end i filed a piece brass into an L shape i then held the jig in place by packing it into place with scrap wood against
the next frame and then filed the frame very carefully .to size. The second part of the frame to thin down (looking down from the top of the frames on to the deck
I used a very sharp chisel and carefully chiselled the frames down, I hope you can understand my explanation. I feel that I can improve next time.
Regards JANET

Hi Donnie. Thanks for the comment but i am not a Master Ship Builder if you look how long the build has taken me and
all the wood i have scrapped and i am not even finished yet. Still at 75 years of age i am not sure if i will even complete HANNA.
Regards JANET
Hi,Janet.of course you will finish it,never giv up,keep on building//Larsa

hi from tez is it not possible to do the stanchions before assembly in the jig I am in the early stages of building Hannah, just wondered if possible

Hi tibx427 As regards the stanchions I thought about thinning them down before assembly but I came across a problem, unless you completely finished each frame
exactly to finished size i think that would be more or less impossable. I thought about finishing all the framework then cutting each stanchion out and replacing it
with pre made stanchion of the correct size, even if it could be done perhaps it would be cheating anyway could luck with your build hope it works out for you.
Regards JANET

thanks janet,at least we have something in common, I too am 75 years of age,you will have to excuse my naiveity but I am working from a book by Harold Hahn and trying to follow in his footsteps. I assumed that when I have done all the cutting and filing etc they were to finished size, prior to assembling in the jig, is this not so,thank you for your time janet, cheers tez

Hi tez, thank you for your email, I too am working from the same book as you by Harold Hahn so yes we do have something in common.
As you may have noticed I have taken quite a long time to reach the present position, of course as I have grown older have suffered a lot of
mental issues due to my child hood which does not help. Things are looking up again and I am now busy attaching the wales I have used H Hahns
method so I made a pattern out of softwood then using Ebony I steamed the wales and at this moment I am busy attaching them (quite difficult)
anyway keep up the good work and if I can be of any assistance do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards JANET

Hello Janet, It is nice to see that you were able to post a few pictures. Your Frames sure do look good from here, more pictures soon I hope. This last year has been a nightmare for my Admiral and my self. Thinks seam to be settling back to some sort of normal, that is if it is at all possible. This is the reason that I have not been on the SOS Form that much, I just kind of buried my self and my thoughts in my Old Ship Yard and not achieving very much at all.
Regards Lawrence
