How can man do that. The wire received for making the chain plates its winded so much that its impossible to make a straight piece of chain plate.

I tried heat and then pulling but did not succeed. I tried hanging weights on the wire.. did not either.

G'day Messis, what I usually do is cut a piece of wire to the length I need, on one end I hold it with a pair of pliers, I put a piece of wood in my vice and hold another piece of wood on top of the wire, press down hard on the wire with the wood in your hand and pull the wire through both pieces of wood, and after doing this a couple of times the wire should be fairly straight, hope this helps you,

best regards John,

best regards John,
that is also my method :D

Use copper wire instead. Just stretch it slightly and it will go straight - Here are twpo pieces of stretched copper wire. I have purposly put a curve in the one held in the tweezers. You can do the same with brass, but it needs more effort. Put one end in a vice, and grab the other end with a large pair of pliers and heave on it. - It is still fairly easy with 0.5mm brass -

Depending on the length of the wire, I use two blocks of smooth, hard wood, 2 - 3" wide and a little longer than the wire.
Place one block on a bench, table or floor and lay the wire on that block, along it's center-line. Place the other block on top then press down on it while sliding it back & forth, at a right angle to the wire's length, several times. Depending on the wire material & length, longer pieces might not respond well, but I have used this method for MANY years with lots of success.

Those are all good suggestions. I've also had good luck by laying out the piece and gently tapping it with a hammer. Just be careful because if the wire is very soft you could flatten it.

I have rolled wire to straighten it, but only very thin wire. I can't really undertstand how tapping it with a hammer will straighten it though!

This is the right one! I use this method even with 1.5-2 mm wires without a problem.
