Hello everyone,in this topic you can share what other hobbies you have.

Aviation is a long term interest of mine. I’m a licensed private pilot, but I don’t actively fly anymore. I used to design add-on aircraft for MicroSoft Flight Simulator, specializing in World War II propeller driven planes. I did a simulation of a Boeing B-29 Superfortress that was tested out by an actual WWII B-29 pilot. He told me it flew exactly like the real thing! A really proud moment for me!
I also build period furniture. Mostly American styles from the 18th and early 19th century. I’ve built most of the furniture in our house. Cherry is my favorite wood, and although I use power tools, I still love cutting dovetail joints in drawers and carcasses by hand!
I even found some time and built my own sailboat. She’s a 16’ OD gaff rigged sloop that the Admiral and I still sail.

So much to do, so much fun to enjoy, so little time!

Now... I do understand where the skills are coming from. We would need to see your own and Admiral's private boat, no to judge thought, for enjoyments ;)

Here are some pics of the sloop under construction, and a link to a blurb from Wooden Boat magazine when we launched her. She's named "Molly" after our sweet Golden Retriever.

Being a PADI scuba diving instructor for 25+ years left some marks on my sinuses :) so now focusing on a small renovation projects around the house, a bit of furniture building, spending time with my son on classic Fiat 700 from 1973 (little blue car on the picture), and trying to workout at least 3 times a week. No real gym in the house but small set of dumbbells do the work..

Wow what a timely thread. I’m in the process of rebuilding my Large Scale RR layout.

This morning I finished the first of four control panel fronts.

Another of my favorite pastimes is reading, I have a dozen or more favorite authors and have filled a number of bookcases with books that I have read, re-read and read again. I enjoy holding a hardcover book, turning the pages and not worrying about a battery running down.

Besides building scratch built sailing ship models, I carve. I began to carve to become a better ship modeller, but my carving has taken on a life of it's own. I carve relief scenes of ships and the sea, canes, people, Christmas ornaments, animals, birds, and what ever else strikes my fancy. I do several commissions for folks, just about anything they can come up with. I have done several commercial signs and a lot of small figures for children, ie: the Peter Rabbit series of characters, bears, dragons, etc.

Here are a few pieces of furniture I've built. The first shows an entertainment center, clock and small Shaker table, all of cherry. Below that is a three fotted Shaker table, also cherry. Next is a Chester County Line and Berry chest of walnut, with holly inlay. The hutch is a Pennsylvania step back cabinet of cherry, and last is a tall clock of curly maple.IMG_0010.jpgIMG_0011.jpgIMG_0013.jpgIMG_0014.jpgImg_0474.jpg
