You have the later blue kit, with sails, i have the red kit, so will have to make my own patterns (eventually!).You are doing very nicely.
You can see my captain is not pleased with the progress on his Hussard!ROTF

Yes mine is the blue kit and looking at your model seems very different, I am still making some progress each day although with the rigging it is geting complicated ??

You are doing very well, looks great ! Do not worry about mine, i am working to original 1860's plans, not to artesania's, so it looks very different from any of the kits ! I have recut the entire hull shape and changed the scale to 1:55 in order to use the kit wood, and i have added a lot of blocks under the deck edge to anchor shroud lines and bulwark supports to. That's just my methodology. I will probably do a build log when i have finished my present builds.

All of the sails on now just the rest - life boats, rigging & crew to be installed. question - should the lifeboats be on the deck or hanging from davits. I have photos from elsewhere showing davits ?????

French ships of this period generally had davits abreast the rear mast shrouds. Le Hussard carried two boats in that position and a third , smaller, on deck, in front of the cookhouse .

Well that does not look right, I beleive two options :-
Put the boats on the deck or
Pull them in closser to the hull

I will be shortly looking to build a new model, I am thinking a steam powerd sailing ship (paddel wheel maybe)
any suggestions???

There is a build log going for L'Orenoque (Mamoli)by the Gavel in the kit forum, it would be contempory with your Hussard, or there is the Harriet Lane (Model Shipways) and a new one by Billings, the Hjejlen, all are sidewheelers . or the Texas riverboats , tailwheelers. Most of the arctic exploration ships are mixed screw/sail , Terror, Endurance, (occre) or the old Pourquoi Pas by Constructo if you can find it. there are quite a few in this class in kit form. Depends what you can find in Aus i suppose.

thanks for that, I shall have a look. I don't really want a river boat but an early sea going paddel steamer/sail boat

I have decided to go with the Endurance, Not quite what I was looking for but close. Also some build logs exist here which will be a great help. Will take some time to arrive but now I can put he finishing touches to Le Hussard. Perhaps paint some crew

I have the Pourquoi Pas waiting for it's turn, very similar to Endurance, picked up cheap. But it will not be for some time yet. I hope to attack the Hussard fully in the springtime, i wanted to plank it this year but i have gotten stuck into rigging the two three masters that need finishing for the winter months, so be it !
