118 Gun French three-decker - Le Commerce de Marseille / L'Ocean - scale 1:72

Wow.

I didn't really want to show anything until I finished the whole thing (or at least the side of the gallery), and here are some beauties so I'll also reveal a little bit of the secret. Since it's my birthday and stuff like that, I finally didn't have to buy myself machines and I got my hands on a rather specific printer (not by accident;)) and it's already managed to spit something out. I'm no graphic designer, but I put together some triangles, squares, balls and this is what came out. Figure head is from Bernard Huc's file

Are the Soleil Royal 3-D objects or printed decorations for sale, @SZKUTNIK ? Just acquiring those alone would prompt me to build that model from scratch (after the Sovereign is done).
Hello Kurt

This L'Ambitieux is based on Pangialo's sketches

Also @GuyM added sth I didn't know as I thought he was constructed

"As for the Ambitieux, the represented ship never actually was made, but rather a similar, and later date version of it; the plans for this one are what Tourville presented to Colbert to show how the hull curvature, the length VS number of guns should be designed, but refused, as there was already many arguments between the different ship masters. That ship was conceived by Pangialo, who also made the first real Ambitieux some time in the late 1680's the first real named one. The plans are from the 1680 original design."

Hello

20.10.2024 Update

I finished second part of leaf with a crown below. I did something wrong with design as a part below leaf doesn't print it's very thin and breaks while cleaning.
Good part is I tweaked printing settings and now I have profile for printing pulleys. First wanted to test smallest ones(2,5 mm)- test successful:D

I'm also testing colors for decors. 3 variants of vallejo paint

Hello

Little progress on making stern decorations. Set of leaves with a crown below is completed, same for a long arc from behind and sides.
The most difficult was "culdelampe gabarre" assumming I found the right term(those blocks on bottom)

I will soon show my gallery too. I modeled it and then printed and painted it. I like the result already, I will show it soon when I will record it. Good technology when there is no time and opportunity to do all this manually or there is no milling machine.

I was little hesitant whether I should show the final results or progress in stages. People tend to like more polished photos and don't look how much time and effort it took to get there. Milling machine is no wunderwaffe, if you go back to previous post I already finished stern by manual carvings in pear. It took me month or two just to mill the side QG pillars. I had to really think this through whether tear down months of work and add additional months just to changes some details. From time perspective it was, but under some conditions. Definitely you have to have more than one ship to build and you have to like kitbashing, because it's a great tool for that. For simple carvings it's not that hard to learn basics of 3d design

Good morning. Kudos on those 3D printed decorations. I am still learning 3D design and it is not easy to make (for me anyway) accurate details and get the printing as well as you have done. It is going to add so much to an already beautifully made model. Cheers Grant

Thanks for the appreciation Grant.
Like I said those are very simple and easy to make decorations. I haven't touched sculpting characters - the figurehead is made by Bernard Huc.
I'm really tempted to remake Heller's 1/200 Royal Louis as some kind of side project. With a 3d printer one can make a wonderful model
