Here are two "Fictional" ironclad models. The Idea is what if the CW lasted a few years longer and technology and design had gone further. The first model is a confederate ship that mysteriously resembles a french Cerbere battle ship design, (something I did not knew existed before I made the model, nothing new under the sun I guess). The model is made of solid cedar in three pieces.

The second model is based on the USS. Dunderberg, I have named this one "Blunderberg" as the Dunderberg was rather unsuccessful. Following are a series of build photos of it.

Both models are 1:200 scale.

Great looking models - very special in scratch made of timber in this small scale !!
and very realistic photos as "diorama" Thumbs-Up

One questions:
you show in one photo a "band" with rivets - I did not know, that something like this is available - maybe you can explain how this is working?

BTW: Would like to see a building log with your work - would be very interesting

I used HO scale 3-D rivet decals from Micro Mark, There are two sheets to a set and seem to work very well and the price is right, $16. Check them out at thier web site, micromark.com
