Airfix Golden Hind 1/72 with added rigging and details

Good day John,
One of the option, making this triangle decor, to use sharp fine blade making borders of this triangle, than slowly to fill in area of this fine cutted borders with liquid paint in several strokes...You need fine brush for this...and first try this technique on some other area not on the model.. I did it on my model and it works well...maybe slowly, but gives very fine and clear borders between different colors on the flat surface...
But You need to cutt this fine triangle cutt very accuratelly and very fine almost non visiable, but only for cappilar effect which gives You sharp and fine border between two different colors...

:))) why You did clouds green on the stern shield?
And You should give Elizabeth I reign coat of arms symbols in priority of FD coat of arms on the stern shield , this black and white shield...I think it was given by El I to FD, knighted, after this famous voyage... than shouldn' t be here yet, but I could mistake ... if You have time and interest in historic background, You could" vent" this question, what simbols could be seen on the GH stern shield?

Ah...I did not see them as clouds! I thought they were trees...on either side of the view! They would have to be cumulus clouds given the shape and I didn;t think they looked right. I also looked at others and most (?) had painted them green, which is also probably why I thought they were trees. I mostly used the work of swlusk here as the basis for my version. And reproduced below. I am going to try to add some cirrus clouds and some texture/shading as he has done so nicely!

You are of course correct! FD was knighted, and presumably given his Coat of Arms, after he returned. So it should not be on the ship untyil AFTER he returned. But...maybe I ammodelling it after it was put on display follwoing the voyage :-) More info on this is here, by rkwz, who also noted this inconsistency.

That is an interesting idea. I am not sure my skills are capable of it, but I might experiment with the technique.

Someone (Harry Houdini, in Australia) suggested painting the light colour along the hull, and then painting the dark colour on paper which is then cut to the correct size/shape and glued into place. I guess this also works... Not sure which approach to use yet!

I have added some clouds and tried to put some texture in the grass, leaves and the hind itself.

Hi Kirill
here is a closeup picture of the hull. The triangles are actually marked in the plastic...slightly raised lines. So they *might* be useful to give straight lines. I expect that your technique would not work because I would first need to remove these raised lines, so I can replace them with your cut lines? Have I understood?

There are a couple of sections that I plan to cover in red and yellow triangles. So obviously I will paint those sections yellow and then add the red over the top. So that gave me the chance to try yellow triangles and see how I manage. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked! I used Posca paint pens (suggested by Harry Houdini) and they worked well.

That was simply drawn freehand. The slightly raised plastic lines are indeed a help, and provide a little guide to the hand and eye, and a small resistance to flowing paint. So I am hopeful that I will be able to do this neatly and by hand...which will also be quicker than most other methods. I finished doing one section and it looked OK to me.

So while continuing to experiment with triangles (damn triangles!) I was reminded that I need to add the anchor cables before closing the hull. I noticed that there are no holes in the hull, and indeed there are no holes in the piece that is to be attached to the hull. So that is done, while I contine to sweat over these triangles...

I have done some experiments with painted paper triangles. There is some wood grain in the plastic so thin paper would be required. I was told that cigarette papers were a good choice, so I tracked some down.

Now, I was originally intending to use the Posca Pens so I have picked the colours I want and painted much of the hull with them. The yellow is actually called "apricot" and the red is "dark red". I have done the line of blue and white and it is OK....more tidying to be done. But I thought I would try the red (and background yellow) triangles with paper and if that works I can go and re-do the blue and white. I am locked into using the posca pens because I have started with those colours. But the posca pens (although very useful for some things) are not so good on absorbent paper. The paper crinkles and the strokes of the pen are hard to hide. Grrrr. I have been told that airburshing might work so I will try that.

As a displacement activity I have begun construction of the guns for the gun deck I will be adding. It was suggested that the guns be wired onto the carriages in case the glue fails at a later date. It will of course be impossible to get into the deck once the hull is assembled. So I figured I would also wire the gun carriage to the deck (as well as the gun to the carriage). Here is a prototype. Two holes were drilled through the bottom of the carriage, with relatively thick wire through them, which can then go through the deck below. They will hold the carriage in place and also hold the orientation. I ran a thinner wire througn the holes in each side of the carriage. These are normally for eyebolts and tackle, but I am not including in the guns on the gun deck because they will be barely visible. I am hopeful that this will all work. And hopeful that I can get a deck in the right position!
