Airfix HMS Hood: S.O.S !!!

Thank you for being so receptive. If I can help in any way, don't hesitate to ask.

Proper glue, some sheets of plastic card, good quality brushes and a sharp scalpel can take you a long way without costing a fortune.
Many of the over molded items can be improved immensely by careful scraping..
Good references are essential.

All other kits from this Airfix range have many possibilities.
I built 'Warspite' and 'Repulse', converting each to original WW1 configurations, which needed some serious research but in the end delighted me, the original kits became unrecognisable.
I'm in my 60's and remember growing up with Airfix. As far as model ships went they pretty much had the market back then. From memory my first was the HMS Ark Royal and her Tribal escort. Pretty sure I built that one at least twice, along with Hood, Warspite and or course Bismarck. Also had a soft spot for liners, oddly enough after the film The Poseidon Adventure came out, building the Queen Elizabeth, SS Canberra, SS France and of course the Queen Mary (by Revell I think). Back in those early days, I don't think my warships even got paint, just glued together out of the box. :)

Wedgie, hi.

The Ark Royal/Tribal combo was a Revell offering. Never my favorites as the Revell kits weren't 1:600, but 1:720.
That to me as a kid meant you got less for your money LOL o_O

Thanks for the memory job Pugwash; you are indeed correct, she was a Revell Kit. I didn't know much about scales back then, although I do remember having trouble gluing the biplane wings on the tiny fuselages. :) And that's when my hands were small and steady and my eyesight was perfect.

Just one more photo reference for your collection. This shot provides a pretty good view of that part of the superstructure prior to it being modified/enclosed, and is similar to one of the photos Pugwash provided.

May have scale drawiing of that structure. Will look it up and post if you wish.

The material is welcome indeed, thank you very much. May still do another Hood or two, so any reference material will be great. See this structure actually corresponds with the old Airfix rendition (as Pug's pictures also indicate), and what can be seen reasonably clearly are the supporting posts. Mine may not be so far off then.

Ettienne, I have many photo's and drawings of this ship and others.
If you want anything specific, let me know.
Of course there's always the caviat 'you can't find something when you want it'!
