Batavia VOC 1:72 Kolderstok by RobertD [COMPLETED BUILD]

Too often artifacts of historical significance are treasured by individuals with an interest in the subject, with potential loss of those artifacts. I think that, like buildings from ages long gone, ships, cars and aircraft are part of our tangible heritage, not just words in a history book, and should be preserved.

Hi Robert. I just cant help admiring your model of the Batavia, especially the pics of the final product in its display cabinet. Just beautiful.
i am in the process of restoring a Batavia which i bought as a completed models many many years ago. The ship deteriorated over time, most significantly the sails and i dont want to leave it that way. The ship is quite beautiful but the decks need some correcting to make it true to the ship as represented by the replica. the ship lines and decorations are quite beautiful on this model but i just want to take it to the next level. I dont fell overwhelmed with the woodwork required but the part that absolutely scares the hell out of me is the rigging. i have a general idea but i want to replicate it properly. I was considering buying the plans from kolderstok in the hope that the rigging instruction are well laid out and easy to follow. I think you would be a great person to ask if that is true since you have built the model. Kind regards from a fellow sydney sider. Steven

Good Morning Steven , Kolderstok plans are quite correct, unfortunately I threw them out , see what Kolderstok can do for you , Cheers Rob

Hi Robert,
Thats ok. I appreciate that you would have done that for me.
Im not too fussed about buying them but was just wondering how good they were and if the rigging plans were well laid out for someone with not too much experience. The rigging on this model looks abit daunting.
I have attached some pics to show you where im at currently. I cut the ropes on the deadeyes to allow me to access the deck for the modifications. I considering leaving them loose till the end to make the rigging easier. if it ends well I'll re-rig the deadeyes towards the end. Abit of a mess, dont you think......lol
