Black Swan

Hey guys,

Here comes sail part 2. I wasn't completely satisfied and have fundamentally revised the sail again. This is the result. Attaching the leech rope and the fan was already a challenge at this scale. Not exactly easy. But in the end it was worth it for me. It goes wonderfully with my dinghy, which is almost finished. Now I just have to rig the sail and then there will be photos of my dinghy and everything that goes with it.

Best regards
Günther Ship-1

That’s a great-looking tiny sail, Günther!

What did you use to attach the bolt rope?
Hey Namabiiru,

thank you very much for the kind words. I feel honoured. Thumbsup :DThe sail will decorate my dinghy.

You asked what kind of glue I use. I use this glue.
The properties of this glue allow it to be applied precisely and to bond wet wood. It is therefore well suited for gluing ropes. The open time for correcting the fit is also sufficiently long at approx. 30 seconds. When heated with the moulding and bending tip, the adhesive hardens immediately. Water should also not stand on the wood to be glued, as the adhesive then reacts too quickly and does not penetrate the wood. It is like a gel. It is slightly thicker than normal superglue and holds extremely well.

That is very interesting. I can’t tell much from the label other than it is for wooden model building. I tried superglue on my sails, but it tended to make the material more translucent wherever it was absorbed. Hand-stitching boltropes is very tedious so this looks very useful.

Hi folks,

after I fitted the leech rope and the luffs yesterday, I had to shape the sail today. I used highly diluted waterproof wood glue and a round mould. The sail was placed on a ball and coated with the wood glue. This made the sail soft and it took on the shape of the sphere. I had thus achieved the desired shape of the sail. Now all I had to do was dry it and see if it worked. I was surprised at how good it looked and was very pleased with my first attempt at making a paper sail.

Even though it was a pain to make a lugger sail on such a small scale, it showed how good and realistic a paper sail can look and feel like a real cloth sail. It really is very stable. Take a look at the photos.

That is beautiful! I can’t wait to see it on the boat!
Hey Namabiiru,

Thank you for your interest and kind words. I understand how you feel. :D I'm excited myself. Especially since you don't know what my dinghy looks like yet. I'm pretty sure you'll like the dinghy and the sails. I don't want to show the dinghy yet. It should be seen in combination with the sail. I will show different sequences, once with the sail hoisted and once with the sail folded down.

In other words, the sail is about to be rigged. (I hope I can express myself well in English, otherwise please ask questions. ;)

Best regards,

I haven’t seen it, but I know it’s going to Ausgezeichnet!
