My wife and I were taking a morning stroll along the Lunenburg waterfront yesterday. The fog was starting to lift as the crew on the Bluenose II were completing their early morning arrivals and clean up. Our time was limited but I took a few photos of the Bluenose II that may be of interest to some of you, baggywrinkles and all :).

Hi Roger. Thanxs for sharing this wonderful pictures of this beauty.
Visiting her in Lunenburg is still on the wish-list :) (Ja toch, Johan @RDN1954?;))!
Regards, Peter
Hello Peter, I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. Bluenose II has a regular sailing itinerary but she is mostly in Lunenburg, which is a wonderful old port to visit. I hope you get the chance to visit one day and possibly enjoy one of the short cruises.

I visited the Bluenose when it was in Halifax. Lots of fun.
She’s a really beautiful vessel Jack, were you able to get aboard? I was invited to the re-launch of Bluenose II in Lunenburg back in September 2012. One of those memories that stay with you forever as she slipped into the water.

yes i did go aboard. I enjoyed it very much. You are indeed lucky to have been invited. Was the relaunch that situation back when they needed to change the rudder on the ship back from metal to wood because it was affecting the steerability of the ship?

The relaunch was the actual launch after completion of her rebuild. At that time she had that controversial rudder arrangement to meet Class Rules (ABS), which was later changed out.

There was a lot of discussion during the planning stage whether she was considered a “new” vessel under the regulations or an “existing” vessel. The difference in those terms affects regulations, which were a factor in what changes were necessary. So following the rebuild as an existing vessel she was, on completion, relaunched.

Very nice pictures. Some of the shots could represent those from a kit. ( ie; a very well built model. ) I am going to save them for reference.

Thanks, glad the photos are of some use to you.
I wonder if a modeller has built or started to build a model of the Bluenose II as she is now with all the modern equipment etc?

Hi Roger.
In this post Massimo @massimotocco told he was going to build, (starting in de middle of January 2021) the BN-II -> Going to build BN-II <-.
Here he shows his finished model -> Finished BN-II <- + -> Finished BN-II <- 'as it is today in the waters of Lunemburg'.
It's a very nice representative model. If you wanted to build a 'today's BN-II', I suppose you can contact him for information.
By the next up-date of the -> BN-List <-, I will ad a column if the build is a BN-II.
Regards, Peter

Hello Peter,

Thanks for the information and link. I looked at Massimo’s representation, a fine looking model.

I don’t think a Bluenose II build is in my immediate future but I can see a lot of modellers wanting to construct an updated version of this famous ship.
