Good job so far. I've obtained an empty seat in the wings and will be following this. I really liked this kit, and LOVE the pearwood included. While I have had to deviate to walnut and cherry for my later projects, I'm determined to get back to pear.
I do remember (or I think I do, actually...) the Kit came with a squared dowel as a template and as a pad for sandpaper as well to pierce tidely out the gunports. I'm I going wrong? Great job so far, BTW. Cheers, AlbertoOk Folks, on this 4 of July, i was able to finish the other side gun ports and glued the decks floor beams.
This time i tested @BradNSW Technique using a saw and ruler. Worked fine, it was more precise and more work HAHAHA. Nevertheless, I was very far to achieve Brad's cut's quality. But they ended better than the other side I did yesterday and was less stressful following the ruler with the saw. You can check Brad's (BradNSW) built. Link is on first posting.

I hope to be able to cover all the gun ports imperfections, meaning not perfectly squared, when I do the internal frame and the external/internal hull planking.
Cheers !!

Yes, the kit has templates for the gunports. That doesn't meant I will be able to cut them perfectly squared.... Interesting and, I assume, effective by your excellent results. I'm impressed it is to scale. I'm just finishing a Chinese kit 'Le Fleuron', by Miniature Arts. It had similar on A4 sheets, but none were to scale. They were about 10% too large. It isn't a classic paper ship plans. It is more of an instruction manual only in drawings and some, or most of them, are 1:1 to the kit parts.

I have not heard about Miniature arts at all. What I can say is that @Unicorn models , the developer of the Bonhomme Richard cross section and many others kits is well know company that provides high quality materials with their kits as well as instructions, images, drawings, etc needed to achieve an excellent built.Interesting and, I assume, effective by your excellent results.
