Agree with you Jim, the Byrnes tools are the best in the business.

I have the draw plate, the disc sander, the Thickness sander and the table saw with all the accessories.

Many thanks for sharing with us - as I can see a lot of hints are in principle valid, so also for modelers which have machines from other producers interesting....
Very Interesting to go through the pages

That is a lot of good information in a very few pages! I don't have a Byrnes saw, but I have been very happy my very old Dunlap cast iron saw- these are plentiful, cheap and all they need usually are new bushings:

Another source of information is "The Tablesaw Book"

And "Jigs and fixtures for the tablesaw"

Reviving this old thread to post a minor warning when changing your saw blade. Ever since I got the machine I've not been having a ton of luck with it and so I put off checking out until I need it again and then get terrible results and put it away again. I got it out again today to repeat the cycle when I noticed that my blade was actually wobbling. Not side to side, but up and down (or back to front). In technical terms it was wobbling perpendicular to the rotary center line of the arbor shaft.

This is because there is a small lip on the inner arbor washer that is supposed to be inside the hole of saw blade. Mine, for whatever reason, was not fully seated onto this lip.

It is a very tight fit, almost verging on a press fit. I really had to work it down to get it seated.

Once I got it reinstalled and tested it again, the results were far better than anything I had previously done. Top one was done a few months ago, bottom two I just did now.

So, just something to keep an eye out for. It's very easy to not get this seated correctly.

The Byrnes Saw Operation article cited above is also available on the MSW "articles" drop down menu at the top of their home page. It's in a more readable format, black print on a white background, which is also better for copying to paper if you like to keep all your tooling data in binders as many do.

Note that the Thurston slitting saw blades mentioned in the article are no longer available. I believe Thurston went out of business. There are similar blades available elsewhere and I'm sure Donna at Byrnes can provide saw blades as well, of course.

At the same site, there is also an excellent article on milling your own wood for modeling using a full-size table saw.

Bob the slitting blade I got in 2023 was from Martindale, I believe all the blades Byrnes supplies is from there now.

Also, I can't access your link, like Olivier.

I used to be active on MSW. I recall that only certain threads are accessible to browsers; basically the build logs for kit and scratch built models. The Shop Notes section that includes the Byrnes Saw information is only accessible to members. Becoming one is similar to joining SOS.

Sorry Bob, at least for me the two sites listed above return an access denied message.

That's wierd. I checked them when I posted them and they worked yesterday. Maybe MSW blocks links or something. Anyway, they are in the "articles" section of the drop-down menu of the MSW forum website.

The links Olivier posted in #11 above work fine.
