Cutty Sark Boats

They look fantastic, but I'm building the 1:75 Cutty Sark! I'd love these for my model - if you ever scale-up please post on SOS.

1:75's set against 1:98's. I am obviously biased but I think they are nicer still in the larger scale. As I include profiled skids with the 1:98 but don't know the layout of the Billings 1:75, I think I will make these long, for trimming, and without the legs or holes for the same. Resin is very easy to cut, drill and file and this approach should pose no challenge for anyone building the 1:75.

Hi Kevin,

The boats do look much better in the larger scale and would be much better than the kit boats that I have. There are just some ply V-shaped pieces for the skids in the kit so it is up to the modeller to make something better. I would definitely like to buy a set at 1:75 scale because all that Billing supply are their generic plastic boats - the two life boats are just about OK and useable, but the other two boats are identical and are the wrong type and size because there should be a Jolly boat and the Captains Gig as you have modelled them correctly.

Hi Kevin,
I finally got round to making up the boats. They look really nice painted up and will really compliment the model. It's annoying to turn the Jolly and Gig upside down to be as they are on the ship! Thanks for the extras, I didn't find them in the box until I started to build up the boats. The catheads look great! It was a shame I didn't spot the binnacle before I fitted mine but it will not go to waste as I have another build that will use it.

I'm glad you've liked them Dom, and I agree, it's a shame to have to flip the gig in particular. As I've still not got anywhere with half-furled sails (which was mostly led me to pause my build), maybe I'll look at an 'at anchor' diorama and have the gig afloat. We'll see.
