Decided to build the Mantua/Sergal HMS Victory

Ok. 1 side done. On to the other side. Pattern was good. Only had to shift 2 holes about 1/16 of an inch.View attachment 644012
Looking good Jim. Very neat planking you almost don’t have to do the second walnut layer :) . I’m guessing the brass gunport “frames are not glued yet? I’m not sure if you want to do this - On my Mantua Victory I wish I had framed each port with wood rather than the kits brass. The brass does look cool tho and doing 100+ little gunport frames could drive you nutsROTF. Obviously this dependent on what look you what to achieve at the end of the build. The kit finish looks mighty fine too. Enjoy. Cheers Grant

Thanks Grant. I only stuck the brass in the holes for size. Have not decided yet if I will use the brass or make my own. I used the brass on the Bounty I built and it looks sharp. Just don't know if I want authenticity enough to make all those gun ports.

Hi Bill. I bought it from Hobbyworld-USA in Watkinsville, Georgia. It was $75.00 plus $49.00 shipping. I'm just starting using it, but even with the steep shipping cost it will be worth every penny it cost many times over. Good luck. Jim
i bought mine from Poland. believe it or not the shipping was cheaper for me than getting it through the States

That building fixture is the berries. This would be a lot harder without it. I'll really have to think about those frames. Luck for me I have a whole nother layer to go before I need to worry about them. The other thing I'm thinking is with the yellow ocher paint they might just blend right in. Grant, I'd like to ask you since you built this ship, could you maybe post a picture here of how you did the back end planking. I have seen it done 3 different ways and the instructions give me nothing. there isn't even a picture of it in the instructions.
