Endeavour - Corel SM41 build log

Maarten, thank you for the information. I have also had mixed luck with getting metal fittings to hold a dark color.

I will try your recommendations on my metal parts.

FYI, Anthony you can get acetone very easy, maybe at your house, it is prime ingredient of Fingernail Polish Remover.

If you have a lady at home, she may let you use some. ;)

 i have four of them , acetone isn't a problem, lol, i will try again and see if it goes any better, thank you for the advice

so i tried again today , twice actually , second time i let it dry before washing in water and it seemed to take a lot better , more grey than black , but better than shiny brass , any way here they are , just sitting in their new home , well some of them any way

so i had a go with the white metal from my kit but there wasn't enough , so i used some brass , then i tried to blacken them and once again the black started to flake off , so i tried to clean it off to have another go and they came out like this , don't know why but i like it , so i'm leaving them like this , and here they are attached to the ship20200522_223317.jpg20200522_223331.jpg20200523_090738.jpg

in the picture i can see one of the fittings is misaligned so i fixed it and now it looks better

so i'm starting to make the masts , according to the instructions i should use the measurements that they supply and not go by the drawings which are a little short , (due to shrinkage i imagine) there is a brace on three sides of each mast and i have followed the drawings as best as i can but if you look at the one that i have marked and the one with it all assembled they are different , the brace on the front mast( excuse my ignorance of what they are actually called) in the drawing extends further down the mast than in the picture the main mast looks to be right ,
i have tried to look at pictures of other models and it looks like the way i have it is correct , is it ? because the main mast feels like it makes more sense to have the brace running further down the actual mast . also hard to believe that english is my native tongue , when i reread some of the stuff i write it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense , anyhoo what do you think?
they are not set in place yet just a way to keep them out of the way while i work on other stuff

that's what i think too , i thought there might be a reason that it was cut short but it doesn't seem logical

wow that is very cool , looks nothing like my ship ,so many differences , this one doesn't have the braces at all , i think i am going to bring the braces down to match the main mast and the main drawing i have and for my next boat ,i will have to do more research before i start ...

i decided to paint the bottom of the hull white , the same as it is on the replica , i think it looks better like this , i have also finalized the masts and have started on the standing rigging , i also mounted the ship on its final base , lighting is not great but you get the idea20200630_212436.jpg20200630_212449.jpg20200630_212511.jpg

Great job Anthony. The bluff/blunt bow on the Endeavour is tough to build. You did a super job. My old Mamoli Endeavour from 20 years ago ended up looking like a watermelon and went into the trash (along with my first Admiral)....
