Ethan Builds With Grandpa

Today grandpa and I started our first ship model. I picked it from the pile because grandpa said it would only take two days to make. I have the attention span of a five-year-old so grandpa says I made a good choice.

Here we go:

I'll be back in two weeks.
Hi Ethan. Sorry I'm a bit late with my Birthday Wishes. How nice that you can use the 5-year rule right away with that beautiful kit. I even see that it's an 8+!
And you were allowed to use the cutting pliers from your grandfather? Or was that also a birthday present?
Nice that your build is now going all over the world on this SoS thanks to your grandfather.
Regards and Happy Modeling, Peter

Hi everyone!

Grandpa read all the posts to me today and I was really excited to learn that people are checking out my first model. I can't read yet, but I know how to spell my name, and I can count really high except I sometimes forget eleven. I also want to say 'thank you' for the happy birthday wishes.

Grandpa said this ship was only going to take two days, but he overestimated my ability to stay on task. It seems he thought I had the attention span of a five-year-old, but he may have been overly optimistic. Grandpa also learned today that I take my ship modeling cues from @GrantTyler because I cannot imagine why we should go in the order of the directions. Instead, I like to jump around a bit.

Anyway, grandpa took lots of pictures of me adding parts (I did almost everything by myself), but silly grandpa didn't have a card in the camera, so all those pictures are lost.

Here is where I got to today:

You can see all the masts are in place (the tall one is in the middle, and the short one goes in the back). I also installed two shrouds, but the ratlines are so boring that I asked grandpa if we could be done and he said 'yes'.

I'll be back again in two weeks!

Ahoy there, young ship modeler! Amazingly, you're building your first model with your grandpa. I think, by now, you already figured that's a super cool hobby! I wanted to say that your grandpa is doing a great job involving you in such a fun and special activity. Building ships together is a fantastic way to learn and create awesome things! Keep having fun with your grandpa, building your model!

Too cute Paul.
Cheers Grant

Ethan you are a talented ship modeler with an attention span much greater than most of us. Your sanding and gluing look amazing and you are going to be one of the best builders in the world in no time.
Happy birthday and make a wish for a new boat to build at Christmas, or two, or three.
Cant wait to read your next update.

Hi Ethan. I was wanting and watching you build-log day by day …… but I think your grandpa is to busy with his own new build? I hope he will find some time to take some new pictures of your build. For sure he did not lose the camera card again, because he took pictures of his own new build.
Regards, Peter

Hello Mr. Voogt. Thank you for your interest in my awesome ship model. Last time I was at grandpa's house I didn't want to work on my ship because I was playing games all day with grandma. But I did ask him if I could work on my ship the next time I came over.

There might be a problem though, grandpa has about 100 big drawings of ships laying all over every table in the house so I don't know where we will work...
