Getting old sucks!

I'm writing three days after having had a knee replaced. Getting my head around the idea was more difficult than the surgery and the hospital stay (one night). I did specific pre-hab exercises for three months (the necessary gap after my last ever cortisone shot) which set me up well. What's an hour a day compared to never walking a golf course? A small price indeed.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, Oliver! I have a frozen shoulder, but I refuse to let it stop me from going out to the golf course and doing a little landscaping. ROTF Look forward to you getting back into the groove.

So.....how's that physical therapy going?

Was it explained to you that you will not ever be able to raise your arm past the middle of your chest? You are going to lose mobility!
Its an easier route to reverse that to repair, I know that can't always be done......
I'm holding off as long as possible.....

Looks like I’ll be out of commission for a while since I need a new shoulder joint. My existing rotator cuff and glenoid surface is shot and arthritic as well as multiple tears in the labrum, deltoid and bicep. So my surgeon recommended a “reverse shoulder arthroplasty” Which is going to screw up my golf game this summer! Oh well, the alternative is no golf ever again.

Surgery is this coming week so wish me luck!
I had an uncle who lost his right arm in a crane accident- up to his shoulder. He went to San Jose State, got his teaching credentials, and became a shop and drafting teacher- with only his left arm.
Taught drafting, woodworking and leatherwork.
Built his own bedroom set.... deck on the back of his house...
And did I mention- he also played a WICKED game of golf- with just his left arm? Had a few hole-in-ones in his lifetime!
He was most definitely NOT handicapped
So you might think about golfing with just one arm!
(If nothing else- miniature golf! lol)

Good luck and best wishes on the surgery.

I had the reverse type done about 3 years ago and, I can't really tell the difference between the new and the other one. I am going to be 86 in July and wish I had had it done sooner. I don't play golf, but I can now still work on my models. Before the surgery, it was just too painful to even lift my arm to worktable height.

I do not believe that is true. Both I and one of my neighbors (also in his late 80s) had the reverses done and I can lift up to and including over the refrigerator. He is a golfer and although he says it affected his handicap, he still plays several times a week.

According to my surgeon, I should regain full range of motion over time. With the codicil that I diligently do the physical therapy exercises that are recommended. I sure hope so…

Hi...Had both hips replaced 25 years ago. A GAME CHANGER. Not my golf game. My quality of life totally changed for the positive. I suspect a shoulder surgery would be the same. I don't play golf anymore but not because of the surgery. I just wasn't very good at it. Great game however. I loved it!

Thanks for the words of encouragement @MisterCA! In all honesty, I’m a terrible golfer. My handicap is the 14 clubs in my bag! ROTF We’re just a group of old friends that get together throughout the summer and have hits-and-giggles for a few hours then enjoy a meal with a couple of beers!
