Glue wood and brass

I’ve done a fair amount of modeling with metals (brass, aluminum, steel) where the attachment is to wood - sometimes painted or stained. I’ve had success when I rough scratch with a course sandpaper the mating metal side. The glues noted above will work fine, but only when they have the “tooth” to grab onto. Patience with the curing process also helps.
 
it might help to clean the surface of the brass with fine sand paper or steel wool before gluing.
Soak the brass in a pickling solution same as you should do before silver or soft soldering and/or blackening. If there is heavy oxidation or other contaminants, I like to steel wool the piece before pickling as well. Sparex No. 2 is a good pickling compound to use and is cheap.
