From the Franklin MSDS for their Hide Glue:I'm not sure about the chemical additive though.
ammonium thiocyanate 1762-95-4 1 - 5
cyanoguanidine 461-58-5 1 - 5
I do not know anything about either compound. They never came up in pharmacology and toxicology was not a course back when.
If were me, I would switch to Old Brown.
I know that Franklin will produce a strong bond. I had a situation with a hide glue bond that was supposed to be reversed. I used too much. I clamped too tightly.
I know that hot ethanol will kill hide glue dead. But the ethanol spread to PVA bonds that were to be kept and reversed them too. I think that you can be confident in your Franklin bonds. I also used it to glue felt to the bottom of a drawer (Grestner chest kit) and was not happy with the lack of initial grip.
Old Brown is supposed to have that.
