Golden Hind scratch build 1:48 (based mostly on Aeropiccola plans)

Hi, thanks for sharing it. May I ask if the the 2nd layer in mahogany is prescibed ab initio or it's an upgradeof yours? My ex father il law have built this very same kit - I guess - in the mid 70s with the birch planking alone. Regards!

Hi Albert,

I am not building from a kit. I am just using the Aeropicola plans. And yes, the original plan only outlines first planking. The second planking of hardwood (below the waterline) is a deviation from the original plan. According to my research on Golden Hind, some English galleons in the same time period had 2nd layer planking below waterline and/or below weatherdeck wale.

For GH2, which will be posted in this thread as well, I have applied 2nd planking below the weatherdeck wale. As I progressed, I deviated from the original plan a lot more than I originally anticipated as there were quite a number of inconsistent designs in the original plan.

Regards, Rock
