I am glad especially for the fact you are living in Portsmouth because you can help me in my build!
I was inspired after visiting the Royal Navy museum in 2019 by the ship Janet aka Admiral Barge -( Pinnace 236)
I started a build with only some photos from the visitor catwalk
I desperate need some aft photos ,some interior photos

Hi Daniel, If that photo was 2019 I doubt very much it'll still be there. No 4 shed have a speedy turnover. Still, it's a good excuse for calling in as I've not been to the yard for a while!

Hi Ian, I'm building a privateer schooner at the moment, I'm not sure which ship. It's based on some computer drawings I found online. It was titled 'Chasseur' however she is one of the few schooners (or brig! she had multiple rigs) with details (Greenwich drafts) and it's nothing like! It does mean, however, that I have a carte blanche to play with the design and build a likely example of a Baltimore clipper! Build log to follow soon.

Funnily enough, Captain Gower captured a former British 18 gun sloop named Chaser in 1783. It had been renamed Chasseur by the French when they took it in 1781 and was carrying significant dispatches when re-captured by Gower. Not the ship you are building, I realise, but you did make my eyes pop open there for a moment!

At the time I was hoping to return in 2020 to take a better look ,some photos and some mesurements for a detail or three
But the pandemic had happend and no trips in 2020!
I still have some hope remaining ,I work the Janet at a large scale and the middle part of the ship with the ship wheel and gauges. They are important for the model.
Also I have no info about the aft zone of the ship ,if there is a stair there or not .

Yes, not the Chasseur of which we speak. I intend having a wander down there tomorrow if other commitments don't get in the way. My annual ticket needs renewing. I'll let you know.

You are more than welcome Daniel. I regret, however, that I am not allowed alcohol due to a heart condition. This coming from a man who was once an Olympian at the bar!!! And I'm gagging for a pint!! Mind you, things can change so we live in hope!

In my short membership not only have I benefited but I've also changed my approach to my future modeling. I've been occupied with structure and building as though I was in a shipyard. At heart I'm really an artist. I think that the technical approach is catered for, better than I, by the craftsmen we are privileged to know. I want to try to put in feeling and drama (wish me luck!) In Portsmouth dockyard there are some beautiful dioramas, one of a slaver throwing the 'cargo' overboard (beautiful isn't the correct word here) but it's a memorable work, all tell a story. Might take a while! I hope to submit something soon.

Thank you. Breathtaking work. I was recently at the Buckler's Hard museum in the New Forest, Hampshire. They have similar dioramas based on the RN shipbuilding there 200 years ago. The entire place has not altered much.
