Hi everyone. I am very new to building wooden ship models. I have been interested for over 20 years i just never took the plunge due to my work schedule. I have worked 60 to 70 hours a week most of my life. I was also gone from home alot. I have beeb looking at the buccaneer from occre as I want something a little challenging also with some rigging. I am not working now due to my health and figured i might take the plunge. I have build model cars tanks and planes a few times though work usually got in the way. Also have painted a few miniaturss. I have just always wanted to give this hobby a try. I live in USA east tennessee
Also if have any other recommendations on starter ships please let me know. I will research them. Also like something with history behind the vessel.

Thank you everyone
Nice to meet all of you

Welcome aboard! I just started building wooden ships earlier this year. My first was the Buccaneer. Enjoyed building it and learned much. I am happy with the way it came out and also glad I got a beginner ship to start with. Like yourself I built other things previously but never a wooden ship, had always wanted to try. Welcome to a new experience, one that I'm hooked on now.

As you are new to this great hobby, maybe consider some basic beginner, high quality, kits that are not too expensive to learn the basics. If this is to be a long-term hobby know that some brands are better than others as in many things, be it quality materials, good instructions, realism, etc. One popular go-to beginner series for many, with very good reasons: https://modelexpo-online.com/Model-...-Series-with-Tools-Glue-and-Paint_p_5290.html

Welcome to the forums !
There are quite a few starter ships out there. I'm assuming that you have zero experience .
The 3 kits from Model Expo by Model Shipways in the Model Shipwright group are great !
THe Occre Polaris and Albatross are also popular.

Thank you for the welcome also for the suggestions. I decided to wait a little bit on the buccaneer and ordered the Dory complete with tools from model expo. After watching several unboxing and build bideks videos i can do akot of the things i wanted to do and work ny way up. Especially with thr deal still going to send jn a picture of completed model and get that back on next purchase. If I do all 3 models i can learn alot it seems.
Also glad to meet all of you. Ill post build pictures and will probably have lots of questions.
Thanks everyone
Tim

Thank you everyone for the welcome. Had a bit of a boo boo on my order and it didnt go through it has been reordered and everything is good now. I believe the kit is on back order ao HOPEFULLY will have it in a couple of months. Anyway gives me time to watch more tutorials and read what i can.

Welcome aboard from Connecticut! I second Alans suggestion that you appeared to have taken to start with the Model Expo shipwright series. That is what I did. It really helped. Too many start with too complex a ship and give up in frustration. These 3 boats are a perfect start IMHO. There are many build logs for these boats in the forums to help you. They were a great help for me. There are also many you tube videos. This is the perfect time to start gathering tools!

Just an update, my dory is supposed to be here Monday also 3 books i seen were recommended. Hopefully can get a start by Tuesday. Also i went to nodel expo to just go ahead and order the second kit in the series so I will have it and seen they have the 3 kit set with tools for 100.00 on sale.
