HMS Enterprise 1774 POF 1:48.

Good morning from a beautiful spring Cape Town.

Whiskey throttle.
Ricochet Rabbit had some major whiskey throttle……. I got back from holiday and had this crazy idea to show the internals of the Knightheads by the bowsprit. Got the scale and scratch built these.

I got it wrong. On the British frigates the external bulkwark planks extend over the knighthead frames rather than fitting up against them……Speechless.

WIP however the knightheads are glued in never to be removed…….hmmmmm ROTF

The bowsprit bed still needs to be made so the gap between the stem will be sorted when Ricochet Rabbit decides to get there:rolleyes:

I wrapped some very thin cotton cloth around the sprit to represent the tarred hemp which sealed the bowsprit to the knightheads .

The bowsprit was stained oak. The dowels are birch and I dipped them in black tea first so the wood is not super smooth. Then mixed oak stain with Matt poly. I will apply a second coat sometime…..

She is looking great Grant. If you just want to put back the planking over the knightshead you dont need to remove it.
Just remove a little with a chisel and fit small strips of plank over it

But who will notice it anyway.

That’s looking nice, Grant. And good to read that besides the Whiskey also the use of black tea is allowed on the build of your Enterprise. I just need to double-check which parts were eligible for being dipped in the whiskey …….. Sick

Hi Grant, I delight as always to follow your posts! I doubt that anyone would have noticed if you had not mentioned it. I do believe you are correct about the planking having looked several contemporary models and the painting below by Jposeph Marshall.

Something I never noticed before and really has no bearing on the Enterprise, but maybe interesting for you and others as well. Looking at the 24 July 1776 framing plans for Medea (28) 1778 and Crescent (28) 1779, there are no knight heads. Based on the Marshall painting the knightheads were obviously present on Enterprise as you show them, but it seems the later ships do not have them. Again this has nothing to do with Enterprise, but thought it was interesting for similar frigates only a few years later.

You shouldn't mentioned those bulwarks and knightheads.
Everytime I look to your ship from now one, I think:" It is so beautiful and well build."

But then I look to the bow..........because I know.......I didn't, if you didn't mentioned it.......but now I do......... Alien
