Last night I talked with my lovely modeling buddy. He is still very strong and has considerable expertise in model theory and ship research/verification. He will give strong support on the theoretical side! This morning I also communicated with the designer, and we decided to install short longitudinal beams! I’ll draw a diagram myself first to see how it looks!!
It needs a little bit, until I understood what you mean with short longitudinal beams. You are are talking about the carlings. You should than also think about the ledges which runs parallel to the deck beams.
The picture shows the layout of the deck beams for HMS Triton, 1771, another 28gun frigate from the revised mermaid class. I would not go with your design in the midship section.
The grooves on the crossbeam were originally planned to be machined with a milling machine, and I thought it would be simple. But when it came to actual machining, I found that the milling machine's travel was insufficient. I tried machining a few crossbeams, but due to the secondary clamping, the machining accuracy was not precise enough, resulting in the finished products not meeting the expected results! My own skill at hand-cutting grooves is really nothing to boast about! So I've paused the work for now to think about finding a better machining method!Let me search the forum to see if I can find the answer I'm looking for!
