HMS Ontario 1:48 by Meris Stella

Finished the planking around the gun ports on the port side. Not sure if I'm doing it correctly or not but it looks okay. I guess I should start on the wales next after I finish the ports on the other side.

Thanks

So I've made some big mistakes with this kit.
From all the build logs I've read, seems that most have stopped this build when they have to install the transom. So I planked the 3D printed one and had the bright idea of installing it first before any planking / bull works that way the planking would hold it in place. I put it on the bracket on the stern post, positioned it on the gun deck and filed and sanded it to fit. Then used a sliding T square to get the correct angle from the drawings.
Anyways it ended up being way too high as the upper deck was hitting the transom in the middle of the windows. And the side badges were pointing upwards at about a 30 degree angle.

So I had to break it off the back and start over.
Everything from the side cabin doorways back came off with it.
This time I used the wooden transom from the kit. Now at least everything seems to line up nicely.

Finished the hull and although not perfect and after lots of filling and sanding it looks okay.
Sprayed a coat of primer on it and now I can finish cutting out the gun ports.View attachment 539768

Has the ship's hull been covered? The hull of the bow section needs to be reduced.

I am not sure what he means by reduced bow, but the knee of the head should be tapered to about 5" or 6" at the forward end. An example of a British 28 gun ship shows it better than words.
