Hey guys looks like a nice site. I am 56 yrs old and for the last 35 plus years been designing and building Scale Radio Control Aircraft and full scale aircraft for museums the movies etc. you can check my site out at http://www.Proflooney.net

I have built some Plastic tall ships and some fast boats but want to really do a scratch build tall ship. I like to use solidworks for my cad stuff but right now am having problems getting used to reading these half faded ship drawings so have been looking to see if I can find some outlines that have been cadded up.

so thats a little about me

Joseph

Welcome from another midwesterner. I have just recently joined too but I think you are years ahead of me in skills.
Enjoy there are lots of truly amazing logs here.
I was thinking of using SketchUp for my cad work but have not spent the time to figure out how to capture a scanned image and turn it into a design object.

I don't want to hijack this welcoming thread but I think there are tools in SketchUp that will do that, it is very time consuming to do by hand. Maybe the it is in the 'pro' version. I could see a topic in the general forum on using CAD and drawn plans.

Hi Doug, You should check out the CAD/39D discussion on the princess Charlotte thread it is listed in the CAD section , check it out can be usefull discussion lots to learn. THANKS DON

I usually take a screen shot of whatever in a photo editing program and save it as an .eps file. Turbo cad will open this .eps file (image) and I can trace it in "paper space"
