Interesting rope making from scratch (Facebook link)

A pure craftsman and his trade at work. And a lot of work it is. That rope is amazing when done. I wonder if this will be passed on to the early generation to learn as it should be. This is something that you don't see just everyday. What is amazing is how he is manually (at the start) able to keep the raw hemp threads (rope) basically the same diameter. If I did this, I would have lumps all along the way. He or they have been doing this apparently for a long time.

Guys; I’m new to rope making and trying to figure out some things. One: how to determine how many strands to use to get a specific mm diameter of the rope and, two: which way to twist the two stages of the rope making.( do they twist the same way or opposite)?
