Yes, indeed! Congratulations and thanks! But let's never forget that size isn't the only thing that matters. Mere quantity is no substitute for quality.

From a nearby commercially sponsored forum's fundraising ad: "... DO YOUR PART TO KEEP THIS GREAT FORUM GOING! (89 donations so far out of 49,000 members - C'mon guys!)"

I hadn't noticed the donation page. Done.
I give up, where is it? I looked all over (albeit hurriedly.) Maybe make it more prominent so it will get more play. Thanks in advance

Allan
Gents, thank you very much for the support - it truly means a lot. Currently, Ships of Scale is not running any active donation campaigns. That said, for anyone who wishes to contribute, there is a direct donation link available at the bottom right corner of the main page.
Any support, in any amount, is sincerely appreciated and helps keep the forum running smoothly for all of us. Thank you again for being part of the SOS community.

Can the admins create an automated annual subscription? I would be more than happy to make an annual contribution, but it would be nice to have a reminder. After all, I do send money every year to Wikipedia.

I wasn't referring to SoS. I was quoting the fundraising ad on another unnamed ship modeling forum which shall continue to remain nameless.

Glad to see that the post caused some "collateral benefit" to SoS, though!

:)

Thank you for the kind offer and for thinking about supporting the forum — it is genuinely appreciated. That said, donations to SOS are intentionally based on personal will, not obligation. Once donations start to resemble subscriptions or automated renewals, they stop being donations and become something else entirely, and that’s not the direction we want to take.
SOS is a community, not a service behind a paywall, and participation here is never meant to carry a financial expectation, implicit or otherwise. For that reason, automated or recurring subscriptions would be inappropriate, IMHO
Anyone who chooses to contribute is welcome to do so via the existing donation link, and we are grateful for that support - but it must always remain voluntary, unprompted, and pressure-free. ROTF

You should have not mentioned donation drives from other forums regardless you named them or not!!It is off topic

Understood, and just to be clear, SOS would never operate that way. Any support here is entirely voluntary. We appreciate any amount someone chooses to give, and we would never demand, expect, or escalate contributions in any form. There are no targets, no pressure, and no comparisons.
SOS exists because people enjoy being here, not because they’re asked to pay for it, and that’s a line we’re very intentional about not crossing. ;)

Hi. When you made the payment in you personal PayPal account you can set a period alert. Then ‘they’ remind you for a next one. Mine is set on 1 year and is functioning well. And of course you can also set it off again.
Regards, Peter

Besides trying to create a subscription based donation would be much more trouble mostly as we would have to have a third party mechanism software platform to do this.
If I am correct, I think that May 2026 will be our next donation drive. Again totally voluntary on members to give. SOS has always been free to join without annoying pop Advertising. You get a nice clean forum, and easy to navigate, and fun to participate in, people support each other no matter what skill level with out the elite’s attitude.
For a particular reason, let me say something regarding piracy which has been at the forefront of modeling. I can say with confidence that myself along with my other Admins that we do not support outright broad daylight stealing of any companies plans, resources, etc. in the distant past, this was a concern of SOS. However, some cases were being thrown with what seemed like legitimate piracy, we did not participate nor encourage nor engaged in those activities. However their may have been modelers that might have purchased from a questionable company, but SOS is and felt like it was not our position to police and regulate what an individual decides to buy with their own money. We believe that on a pure individual basis, a person should use their own research and conscience to buy and build.
It is interesting however, that in some research I did, I found there were OVER a dozen of HMS Victory models manufactured by OVER a dozen companies. So who created the first Victory and why wasn’t an outcry over this? Same with any other famous ship that has been copied.

Apologies for posting what seems to have been confusing and/or "off topic" to some.

My intent was only to reinforce the original post reporting that SoS had surpassed 24,000 sign-ups with the observation that "... size isn't the only thing that matters, Mere quantity is no substitute for quality." In support of that proposition, I quoted a solicitation for donations from "a nearby commercially sponsored forum's fundraising ad" which represented that it was twice the size of SoS and had received only 89 responses to its fundraising requests. what appeared to me to be an indication of the relatively low level of commitment and participation of the 49,000 sign-ups. It wasn't about their donation drive at all.

The topic of my post was my observation that the number of registrants to a forum, a measure of quantity, bore no particular relationship to the level of the quality of a forum's content or participants.
