Layout for copper plates

Thank you. I'm happy with the results. It looks good if you squint but amateurish if carefully scrutinized
 
I don't know if I should start a new thread or continue here.
The copper plates in this kit are at least 15 years old and probably older.
Right now they are fairly shiny leading me to believe they have some sort of finish.
What should I do to maintain the current level of luster. (Asked for by my wife)

I'm 175 pieces short on the copper plates including the bottom of the keel and rudder with no spares.

They are 5.65 x 18.5mm (.223" x .730").

Manufacturer us Caldercraft or Jokita.

If someone has some of these I'm in the market.
