Hi folks, we are Modelship dockyard, a kit production company from China that aiming to produce high quality and easy-to-make original POB&POF models. The name, by the way, has nothing to do with the famous "Model dockyard" or "Modeller's shipyard", it's just the direct translation our studio's Chinese name. Here’s some photo of one of our previous products “Blandford” (5 years ago):

We are currently working on the development of “Le cygne”(1806), it’s a beautiful French Brig armed with fourteen 24-pdr carronades and two 8-pdr cannons. Here's some photo of the testing model we are current working on:

We divided the hull into to parts, upper and lower. The lower part used G.bancanus (Indonesian white wood) as the inner layer planking, this kind of wood is easy to bind, makes it easy to fit on the beakheads. Two ends of the lower part used chockings between the frames, making the outer planking easier to stick on the ship. The multi-layer board, however, is very fragile when it's thin, so we added cherry wood on the lower end of the chockings.

P.S. Please note the platform in the last 3 pictures have been abandoned, the pictures were taken from of our earlier prototype, while there's still a platform, this will be explained later.

And for the upper part, we used ribs to stimulate the real ship, making the hull more solid and keep the hull line smoother, the ribs used cherry wood. We also designed what we called "slot design", to get rid of the use of platform while fitting the ribs

Welcome to the SOS family, Modelship Dockyard! It is great to know another kit manufacturer strives to develop great quality kits with easy assembly in mind. I like the way you design the hull structure.

We would love to know a bit more about your studio. How long you are making kits and how many kits have you already design and ready for sale?
Does your studio primarily develop sailing\period ships? What kind of equipment you are using e.g. Laser cutter or CNC machine. Do your kits come with all fittings: blocks, ropes, PE parts, nails, sails. Another word, do you kits sufficient to assemble without aftermarket parts, purchase separately? Do you have a link to your store? How we can learn more about your products?

Do you have a POF kit designed? It would be nice if you could make an open box\reveiew of one of your kits. Is it possible?

All and all, welcome again!

Hi Jimsky, thank you for your welcome. We’ve been designing period ship model for over 9 years. In the first few years we design ships and publish the CAD files for other players to do scratch builds(for free). We had ships like the HMS Enterprise(beck then we already used two half hull), Halcon, and a few more. And five years ago we started to produce kit, HMS Blandford is one of them. And now we are doing testing on our second latest project “Le cygne” and our latest project “Speedwell”. More pictures of both ships will be coming in a few days, but mainly Le cygne.

We are using both laser cutting, CNC, with some aid of 3D printing. Le cygne and Speedwell will come with all the parts you need to build a full rigged ship, and the parts will be in high-end quality.

Blandford is our only POF kit for now, we had POF Enterprise open sourced 6 years ago so we are not producing it, here’s more player-making photo of Blandford:

Speedwell is a lovely ship so we will have both POB and POF, and more POF ships will come next year. NMM model:

P.S. We do have our live channel on Bilibili, a Chinese video website, we will do the testing of products there, I can communicate in English so feel free to come. The live time will be approx 3:00 GMT to 13:00 GMT. https://live.bilibili.com/4105527
