Le Rochefort 1787 Harbor Yacht 1:36 by Bill-R

Hi Brad. Thanks for looking in. I will be honored to have you along on the journey.

Hi Paul. I'm right there with you. You might have noticed, I didn't say I understand the plans. :) I'm just going to start building and if it turns out looking like a ship when I'm finished that's a plus. ;)

Use other's build logs, the info there is more valuable than any other. Print out pictures etc. Scrolling logs is very time consuming sometimes but so is making mistakes or compounding mistakes till failure !

Wow, hi Bill, it's great to have you actively involved! Since we're a small group of fantastic home builders, we're happy to help. If you have any questions, feel free to contact any of us. Wishing you a happy Easter, see you soon!

Hello everyone,

Before I actually start to cut wood, I have been reading reading through all of the great Le Rochefort builds. I am grateful for being able to take advantage of all of the beautiful work that has been done before getting. I don't think I would be able to navigate through the build without the guidance from everyone's work. For once my procrastination and fear of getting started has helped. In the short time that I have spent reading the various build logs, I have been able to clear up several questions that I had even with the beginning of the build.

Thanks,
Bill

Hello everyone,

I have to start by apologizing for my apparent thick headedness. I don't know why this is so hard for me to understand.

I am getting ready to start cutting frames. If I understand the plans for the frames, there are two frames for each frame drawn. In the picture below, the yellow shaded section is the face of the first frame and the orange shaded section is the face of the second frame. Then each frame is faired to its corresponding dotted line. Is this a correct assumption? I am having a hard time trying to determine which dotted line corresponds to which frame.

Could someone help me to understand this.

I greatly appreciate your patience and thank you all in advance for the help.

Thanks,
Bill

This still confuses me too. The best answer I can provide (at least what makes sense to me) is to look at the futtock section lines. The solid lines (red circle) are the frames in “front” and the dotted lines (orange circle) represent the “rear” frames.

So your highlighting should include the full width of these futtock sections.
The coarse dotted line is the outer edge of the rear frame while the fine dotted line represents the eventual fairing line
All the solid lines are visible when you look face on and the dotted lines are hidden.
Hopefully, some of this makes sense and is not simply more confusing.
Reach out if still confused and I’ll try and add some more clear details.
Unfortunately I just had knee replacement surgery so I can’t get down to the shipyard yet…

Hello Olivier,

Thanks for your reply and help. This really helps. I hadn't looked at the futtock lines perpendicular to the body of the futtock. That makes things clearer. Also, I hate to admit it, but I did not notice that the dotted lines are two different sizes. That also makes things clearer. Now I need to let this to sink in.

Thanks,
Bill

Hello Olivier,

I will check the area of your build thread. I had looked through your build before and your work is beautiful. This time I will take my time reviewing your posts.

Thanks,
Bill

Hi, I've had this image saved for a while; I think it was from the French forum. I hope it helps you better understand how to interpret the plans.

Gut, es ist sehr ausführlich. Hast du dir auch Adrians Buch besorgt? Sehr empfehlenswert.
Guten Morgen,
Erlaubt mir eine Frage. Adrians Buch?
Könnt ihr mir bitte den vollständigen Titel, usw. mitteilen? ..vielleicht habe ich es auch überlesen.Das wäre super. Jetzt schon Danke

Hello Richard,

Thanks for following along. It's going to be a long journey. I will be very interested in following your build at 1:96 scale. That will make for some very small pieces.

Thank,
Bill
