I went ahead and made a video on how I am making the post.
Enjoy.
I hope you all like it.

thanks Donnie don't have a small lathe only the normal size for a furniture shop but I am thinking I can use similar technique with my drill press

I am not a spokes person for Sherline, but they offer the least expensive 3.5″ x 8″ Machine Lathe with adjustable “zero” handwheels for about $655. Comes in Metric or Imperial. I had a drill type before and built a "carriage" for it. This is one of those tools that has just that one specific task if you know what I mean. I had it setting up on a shelf for about a year before I decided to use it for the post. This is one of those things that is hard to justify having, but it is a great thing to add to a persons shop.

yea i know what you mean but I can find tons uses for a small one I use my large one all the time. and a small one if a person wanted could make his money back in doll house stuff in no time

I have not made the leap to an expensive lathe. I have a cheap one ($135) from harbor freight. It does not have the digital readout and would not try to duplicate items without the digital readout. If i bought the larger 16 inch lathe with the digital readout, can this to do the same thing or would it make it a lot harder? I could save and eventually get both machines and have saved enough to almost pay for the larger one and could eventually afford both machines. After you spend $1,000+ on a kit and many hundreds of dollars on after market replacement blocks, rigging line, reference books and other items, having the right tools becomes easier to justify. It just takes will power to save for these items.
