The Meng Me-410 kit has probably more cons than pros. This one was a bit tough with the fit around the cockpit/gunner area. The canopy was a bugger to put together and that too didn't fit all. Side guns that were supposed to move, didn't due to poorly engineered inner ring holding the assembly to the fuselage. Although it was more of a pain to build, I was determined to do what I could do and completed a diorama with it.

Some Eduard PE used on this kit. I added some bullet hole patches just above the right side of the cross - used some leftover PE for those.

Spiral decals were horrible. After a fair amount of time softening and fighting with them I elected to just paint them on instead.

Here, the mechanics are just finishing up after installing a spare engine that was shot up. There are two bullet patches on the cover lying on the ground.

I can find nothing to criticise about your aircraft, which are lovely but may I make a suggestion about your figures? Paint them with a matt finish. Shiny figures immediately remind the viewer of toy soldiers and detract from the diorama.

Thanks Smitty! I found the culprit since I use Tamiya Flats on these. It is the Tamiya panel liner and AK grime washes I've applied. Easy fix to this. The wing mechanic is removable so I can easily spray him. The other two mechanics affixed to the diorama can be brushed with dull coat.

The Mossie personnel in another post will have to all be brushed. I'll get on those after I finish this Grumman Goose diorama which is just about completed.

Thanks for the input!!

Nice one Boris! I saw RAF groundcrew at Tengah, Singapore with that shine! It was sweat and grime! They were servicing Lightning fighters. I was flying a C130 Hercules at the time. Mid sixties - ah! The memories!!

I agree with Smithy, really good work on the aircraft, and without intending any criticism, I find that nowadays, ships or planes or cars or trains or.. I somehow expect them to look as if they are used. A whole ‘nuther painting skill to add those polished bits of metal where it is rubbed, and oil/exhaust marks. Even a couple of patched bullet holes and repairs, mud on the tyres if it’s on grass.

On the other hand, in delivery condition, freshly arrived on station, it probably still has the shrink wrap on!

(Very tongue in cheek..)

Strange that. I was RAF ground crew and we used to refer to the admin staff as ‘Shineys’ due to the highly polished seats of their trousers. ;)
