Miss Behave [COMPLETED BUILD]

The lake was perfect except for one problem. We didn’t realize that it would be an issue but the lake has a turtle population. Apparently the noise of the prop sounds like a food source to them. I was running at about 80% throttle. I did not realize what had happened. The boat almost flipped over. I had hit a turtle and it wrecked the drive train.

Incredible craftsmanship! This obviously is not your first rodeo. Do you have pictures of some of your other works?

Oh, what a beautiful speed boat. Your work is excellent and worthy of a museum.

I built this very same boat a few years ago, without the fine metal details you added. Very nce job! First time I had the boat on the water the coupling between the motor and propellor shaft failed and the boat had to be rescued. Haven't had it out since. Here's my solution to the problem of a pilot. I ordered it from Amazon. I called him "Dave." I ordered Dave's clothing separately.

Thank you very much. Not sure about museum quality but I know it is probably the most accurate model of Miss Behave currently out there. I owe that to the folks that helped me with parts and information.

I like the upholstery. How did you accomplish it? I thought it might have been paint but it looks like leather.

For the leather effect on the seats etc the I used Rust-Oleum American Accents “Classic Leather” product. I found it on Amazon. This three-part system uses a spray-can dark-red base color coat followed when dry by a brushed brownish top coat, which when still wet is blotted with crumpled plastic sheet to give a textured effect. I tried it on scrap wood first. It worked better than I had expected.

Thank you for the information. I may need to use that someday.

I forgot to add a photo of the stock motor set up. This all changed when I went Brushless. As you can see from the photos the drive shaft was bent plus the strut was canted over to one side. I had a replacement strut in my spare parts. The problem was that the base was flat. I bent the new one over a drill bit. The bit was on a piece of aluminum and I used clamps to pull it down. Surprised me that it worked.
I took this opportunity to replace the drive dog with an upgrade. This unit has 4 lugs on it.IMG_1383.jpeg

The last photo shows two turtle markers on the windshield. You are correct and this turned out to be a repeat event. Sometimes you just gotta laugh.

The damage from your turtle hit was more extensive and complicated than my failed universal joint. Nice repair job! I simply bought a replacement universal from M.A.C.K. Products Model Marine and my speedster was back in business. I simply have to be on the watch for turtles!

Great model and perfect rendition of the 'real thing' at the Clayton Antique Boat Museum. Having visited that museum, recommend it to anyone traveling in the St. Lawrence River/Thousand Islands area of way Upstate NY's Route 12 area
