Here's a Flyer for the Hobby and Model show here in Scotland I've been asked to display the ships I've built and in the process of building.
I am looking forward to it, but also a bit apprehensive as I've never done or even thought of doing this before as I just build my ships for myself.

Hi mate

This is will only be the 2nd time for this show to be organised the first was last year.
There is a big Model Railway exhibition every year but all other genre's of Modelling here have more or less been forgotten about.
Hopefully this show and future ones will ignite and encourage old and Young as well as new modellers to start Modelling and providing a healthy future for our hobby as it has many qualities regards to mental & life stresses that we all face at sometime in our lives.

Agreed.

I am not familiar with these shows, and I have no idea where you are located in Canada but have you tried these?
Southwestern Ontario Scale Model Expo, HeritageCON, and the Sea to Sky Model Train and Hobby Show in Vancouver
Allan
I am on the eastcoast. Those places are unfortunately quite far from me.

H Rob,
Unfortunately I live near Oxford so travelling to Scotland is a bit too far. Are you aware of any other model shows down south please. I have seen ads for model railway shows, but they are not my thing.

That sound like a nice 2-days initiative, Rob. My experience is that it gives a lot of fun, all the contacts with other builders. Did it now 3 times and I like to make time for it. So, you made the right decision.
Regards, Peter

Hi Dennis

That's understandable mate. There is 1 big one down your way I know of through a few YouTube channels and a couple of other ones I've found, like you these are to far away for myself but I have listed them below for you. The last one has obviously now passed as it was in January but its one for the diary as its a yearly show as is the others.
The big one is the Scale model world show in Telford that I've seen a few YouTube videos of.
Hope these help and are closer to you mate.

Excellent Rob, thanks very much for the info. I have made a note in my diary.

Scale model world show in Telford

I’ve attended Telford a few times. It’s a very big show for plastic modellers. However I don’t recall ever seeing any wooden ships there.

It is run by the IPMS - the International Plastic Modellers Society, as are the other ones Rob lists so you might find a few plastic sailing ship models among the thousands of planes and tanks.

Is there a comparable society for our wooden world?

Looks like we in the UK are a minority regarding Wooden ship modelling, so no one is going to run a show for our benefit plus it would seem no one wants to tag a few wooden ships onto a plastic kit show. I will though pop along to a plastic kit show just to have a look

I build in plastic as well as wood so I enjoy them every now and then. Even for non-modellers the shows can be interesting, if only for the bacon sandwiches and chat. :)

Ah, something else for me to consider then. Plastic models that is

It is something of a golden age for plastic kits. You won't believe the details that are included these days even on 'simple' Airfix kits like my Anson. The top rank manufacturers produce amazing kits.

Take a look at this tank kit to see what I mean. I built one of these a few years back - took me months.

Yes, that is some tank. Based on what you have said i have checked out a couple of sites and I am impressed with what is out there, might have to consider it

Two or three years back when I discovered old time ship modelling I turned my back on plastics. I even turned my nose up at that area of the hobby. However, since buying this Anson on impulse recently I've realised that the two genres needn't be exclusive. Indeed for me they actually complement each other. Plastic gives me quicker results, is more detailed, more weighted towards painting skills and the choice of subjects is immense. Wood has that organic, historical, emotional satisfaction and a far higher approval rating from the wife, if you are blessed/cursed with one of them. ;)

I'm now planning to have a wooden boat project running alongside a series of plastic aircraft and, since looking at that youtube video, perhaps the occasional tank and ship too. I'm aiming for both long and shorter term satisfactions. I live alone (with my dog) so the wooden kits can be my beloved 'wife' while the plastic ones are a series of exciting 'brief encounters'.ROTF

Hi Rob,
That look like an interesting show, I might try to get up there later this year. Have you decided how you are going to get your models to the venue?

Dennis, in addition to the shows Rob has mentioned here in England, there are another couple that spring to mind. The main one is:-
Blackpool Model show

There is also the Midland Model Engineering Exhibition which usually has a handful of wooden ship models and even has two marine model classes (scratch built marine models and kit built marine models) in the competition entries. However, the show is mainly for steam enthusiasts, but does have a good selection of trade stands featuring tools applicable to our hobby.
