Model Shipways Bluenose 1:64 main rail template

Dowa anyone know where I can find a template for the main rail for the Bluenose Model# 2130 Model Shipways?
I went through all my sheets and cant seem to find it anywhere, and tracing the deck wont work because its wider in some places for the pins. Any Help appreciated. If theres an electronic copy I can print them to the correct scale if I need to, trace whatever.

Hi Derek,
Is the model supposed to be the original Bluenose or the modern replica? The monkey rail aft and the buffalo rail at the bow may have been set up differently. Will be interesting to see you solve this situation. I looked at the following video and cannot see any rails on stanchions on the Bluenose. Maybe Bluenose II is set up differently as safety is more of a factor today.

Since one is not provided, @PT-2 used a pillow and some paper in his build log and created his own. It seemed to work nicely so I followed suit in my log.

And while my wife says I’m a hoarder and never throw anything away, I can’t find this tracing otherwise I’d offer it to you.

And for the record, Im a collector, not a hoarder.

thanks for the responses, tracing the deck would be a bit off, as some places it is supposed to be wider, I suppose I could trial and error it,

The part I'm looking at is in the build directions. Bluenose Directions specifically Page 13 section 12 referencing also figure 1-13. I'm about ready to go on a phone hunt to the manufacturer, or Model Expo where I got the model and start hunting them down..lol frustrating

I am not totally sure what you are going for but hope this is some help. Have you tried making a template using card stock or poster board material? You can lay the hull on top of the cardboard and trace the line of the hull to start. This will give you a matching curve to start. Then remove the card stock and add the inboard line of the rail to whatever width is needed. You can them cut along the lines and tape it to the wood that you will be using for the rail to use it as a guide for cutting the rail pieces. The breadth of the rails can then be varied as needed. Make two so they match port and starboard. Just need to flip one over to have a mirror image.

This is what I had done, but I just used some big sheets of brown paper instead of card stock. Putting it on a pillow allows you to trace the outer part of the hull all around the ship since it is not completed flat.

And yes, it’s trial and error. Trace the hull and then free hand the inner edge of the rail.

Model Shipways gives you a laser cut piece for the bow and another for the stern, and you get to “make” the rest. Like many others before me, the laser cut stern section did not fit the hull and I had to make that as well.

And just wait until you get to the deck structures (stage 5, section 3 on page 20). There are a few diagrams (5-1, 5-2, and 5-3) that kinda help, but the instructions really just say “build them”.

Makes sense Hugh. I usually tack the card stock to the hull so it sits against the top of the bulwarks. Same destination, different route In the end I use the card stock rail to be sure all is well before tracing the shape onto wood.
