Museo Naval, Madrid.

Miguel, thank you for sharing those wonderful pictures. The workmanship is so special. The pictures are certainly an inspiration for me just starting out. I was in Madrid a few years ago and I wish I knew about this museum then.

Great pictures. A wonderful museum- I spent all day there last October, and could go back for more.. A lot of the models are contemporary by Spanish model builders, really amazing talent. Another very similar museum is the one in Copenhagen-lots of great models. Unfortunately, IMHO, the "modernizations" of the Musee de la Marine, and the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, although more didactic for children and the occasional visitor, are disappointing to me. Many of their ship models are not in view... Am I just another old guy lamenting how the past was better?

Oh that's quite disappointing. Well I think some things were better in the past and some are better now. I was also quite disappointed when I went to Torre del Oro in Sevilla to se their model ships and they were also "didactic" but quite poor in quality. Can't really remember how good were the ones in the naval museum in Venice because I wasn't quite into scale ship building as I'm now (and I'm still quite new into this). I remember I wasn't disappointed in the models, only the architecture was subpar but can't blame them as it was the only free visit I found in Italy ROTF. Hopefully one day I'll be able to visit that museum in copenhagen you mention and I'd also love to visit the Victory and Cutty Sark in Britain and especially the naval museum of Saint Petersburg.
