My 1/72 scale aircraft

The exhaust I ordered for my Spitfire project came today. It’s an Eduard upgrade.
So I’m excited to wrap up my Spitfire…

I don’t think I mentioned my Spitfire project until just recently. Months ago I ordered a Hobby Boss Spitfire with plans to modify it. I started working on it in between other projects and aircraft builds. The interior is very basic, and it’s okay because it can’t be seen. The idea was to do a Tropical version with that paint scheme and to cut the wing tips and sand them to represent the short wing version that was an experiment that resulted in more speed and a better roll rate.
These two things alone would be different than my current Spitfire, which has the camo used later in the war.
In addition, my neighbor has an airbrush. He builds car models. So I asked if I could borrow it for a day when I was ready to paint the airplane camo. I’m a little rusty since I got rid of mine many years ago. But it came back to me easily. I was glad to use one again and know that’s still an option for me. ;)
Due to the fact that I started and stopped work on it for months, and even considered trashing it at one point, there are a few areas I might address. But overall I am happy with the outcome. I do like my panel lines and mild weathering, and the addition of the exhaust upgrade.
So here she, my Spitfire project airplane finally finished!

Then I put it on the shelf with the other RAF aircraft and next to my first Spitfire…

I will probably build a Spitfire Mk 21 or later with the bubble top canopy. I Love the Spitfire…but I think most people do! ;)

Ok…back to my F-5E Tiger II.

Thanks for the information. Checked it out, some really $$$$ kits offered there. I've been looking for the original RF-101A model prior to the "C" version.

I’m looking for a F-101 Voodoo and a F-111 Aardvark in 1/72…both are not easy to find. There are some available, but I’m being picky since I have time. ;)
I am also wanting a A-1H Skyraider in 1/72.
There are still so many aircraft I want…sigh! I have over 100 at this point and still see ones I don’t have and want to order.ROTF

Love the color scheme and wing tip mods. The spitfire is among my top favorite WWII planes.

Yet another winner from the studios of Dean! Beautiful job. I never realized that they made a clipped wing version. I can see the advantages, but somehow, a Spitfire is just not a Spitfire without those beautiful elliptical wings.

Thanks, they are still elliptical …with a square end. ;) And since my collection is historical I wanted to show that variation as well.
A 'clipped wing" Spitfire with the elliptical wings shortened had an improved low altitude performance, specifically to increase roll rate and speed. This modification came at the cost of higher altitude performance and a reduced turning radius as it decreased wing surface area and lift. It was a modification that could be implemented and then reversed easily because the wing tips were bolted on. ;)

Ps - look at the wings on the Sea Fury. ;)

F-5E Tiger II update…

After two days of painting…I still have a lot to do, however I made good progress.
I have to say I think my next purchase is going to be a new airbrush! I painted the camo with a brush, and it is such a busy pattern, it was not fun! I think it will look better with some panel lines.

So it’s not too bad, it can only get better as I add panel lines, lights, machine guns, landing gear and doors, canopy, missiles, etc.
Oh yeah, the tiny decals…there were 25 on each side of the fuselage and 16 on the wings. So almost 70 decals!

See ya next time…
