Nanchan Temple (Chinese: 南禪寺; pinyin: Nánchán Sì) is a Buddhist temple located near the town of Doucun on Wutaishan, Shanxi Province, China. Nanchan Temple was built in 782 during China's Tang dynasty, and its Great Buddha Hall is currently China's oldest preserved timber building extant, as wooden buildings are often prone to fire and various destructions. Not only is Nanchan Temple an important architectural site, but it also contains an original set of artistically-important Tang sculptures dating from the period of its construction. Seventeen sculptures share the hall's interior space with a small stone pagoda.

Many Chinese ship modelers also like Traditional Architecture models. This model kit designed by a Chinese modeler. Currently, it is not finished, and he is working on the third edition.I'm excited to get a test version of this model and offer some Suggestions for him to make modifications during production.

Hi i want to build a small boedist Temple for andere altar. I was looKing for some examples. Do you know good website for this kind of temple building kits?
 
When I was in school We had a project to build with wood or clay one of Baltimore's Landmarks I chose the pagoda in the local park it was constructed as a watch tower during war and sits on what we call Cannonball hill. the site was used to defend against the British. I made the pagoda from popsicle sticks made the railings from the same and windows from Plastic wrap I shrunk with a hair drier. I wish it was still around I won first place for that model and had it on TV for the evening news. Pictures are from My DJI Phantom 3 Pro drone. this is the highest place around for miles and back then the trees were not there so this was an awesome place to see the enemy coming from a long ways off. My personal opinion ,They are both good building model manufacturers.
Kobayashi Quality is better than Woody joe, more details.

Thanks for the link to Kobayashi. Never heard of them and they have fantastic models. Shame they don’t ship out of the country. I did some reading on them and apparently they prepare many of their kits to order and a buyer has to wait. Woody Joe are smaller scale and cheaper. For example Woody Joe Himeji Castle is 1/150scale and 56,000 yen scale and Kobayashi is 1/100 scale and 140,000 yen. Woody Joe kits are great so Kobayashi must be out of this world in quality and very rare.
It would be interesting in seeing some wooden Chinese Pagoda models. The Fogong Pagoda would make a great model. So little wooden ancient Chinese architecture remains

Kobayashi Crafts is a small and traditional way of running a family business.Kobayashi is the owner's last name, they seem to have no wholesale and distributors, only some model shop to sell their products, but is not in stock, need to book o_Oo_O:p They can't read and speak English, so it's impossible to contact them via email.
They feature is large scale models, rich details. Those dark woods called buried wood （A naturally formed carbonized wood）

I found this model temple in the CAF MODEL web shop. OLD CAT MODEL KAIYUAN TEMPLE 1/75 scale. I thought I would buy it for something different. Never heard of this maker before and very little information is available on the web. A search on Yoycart website shows several models available including some very grand temples much larger than this one as well as some more modest examples. CAF have two different models on offer. The wooden kit outwardly looks simple but is a very complex, realistic and detailed architectural model that includes authentic interior construction features. More detailed and complex to the Woody Joe kits I have seen. On par with the complexity of CAF’s model ships. Over a 1000 finely cut and well presented laser cut parts in 13 sheets of three layer ply wood and dowel wood for roof beams. There are no metal or other materials to this kit. It is 100% wood. There is a glossy 52 page instruction book with clear diagrams and Chinese instructions that are easy to decipher with google translate. Quality looks first rate. Service from CAF MODEL was very quick with reasonably priced shipping. On first impressions this looks like an outstanding model build. At $175 plus shipping it is worth it.

I bought Kobayashi form their own website via Zenmarket, a reliable Japanese agent. No Japanese sales tax was added to that purchase.

Also, Wahuhu has some nice old Chinese Architecture.

Thank you for your recommendation of Zenmarket and link to the Wahuhu models. Always good to expand the data base on kits available and ways to access them. The Kobayashi kits look spectacular.
 
wonderful timber work - and the wood has a beautiful colour
Are the roof elements (tiles) also wood?

and I was surprised of the relatively small size (compared with the lighter) - looking at your photos I had the imagination, that the temple is much bigger in size.
Wow - 2.500 parts -> a very interesting kit!

All the wood is of log color. The tiles are made of black sandalwood and the structure is made of red sandalwood.
