Liberto

Best regards from Gador - Almería - Spain - Thank you for allowing us to incorporate this group of extraordinary modelers, and share experiences.
Thanks again. Liberto

Most of us have a reference of this famous and emblematic ship, we know that we took the name of the place where it was found by Nicolay Nicolays in the farm Gokstad in Sande Fjord - Norway in 1880, with a length of 24 meters and a sleeve of 5, 50 meters approx.
Like Oseberg's ship this oak construction, with sixteen boards per band and it is estimated that it may have been totally weighed about 20 tons.
The model that I present is something smaller, it has a length of 60cm. and a sleeve of 14cm. approx. What is supposed by comparing it with the real model that I am working on in a climb of 1/40 Approx.
The wood that I am using is American boxwood, this wood is very flexible and at the same time it works and responds very well. Once it has its natural color, well sea by means of varnishes or natural oils, it has a great resemblance to oak, but the beta is almost negligible, table 15 is of Cuban mahogany, and the 16th along with the gift cap is pear tree .
I hope you like and spend part of your time after this entertaining project ... and if it can also help to make this, or want to start construction this Viking ship ... double satisfaction.
Thanks partners. Liberto

Welcome aboard SOS, Liberto! A very, so-called, precision work and unusual building method. Will watch with big interest as you will progress. Looks like you are using a Proxxon attachment to sand frames. I have not seen one here in the US. Can you tell us more about this sander device?

Saludos Liberto

Thank you Liberto, It is a very nice attachment you made! Yes, the pictures are clear and makes a perfect sense. Many thanks for showing!!

Saludos y gracias nuevamente. Liberto

Greetings, fellows and thanks for your kind comments.

Ramón thank you for the consideration you have for me ... you are a great master of naval modeling PROFESSIONAL (with capital letters)

Angel happy to greet you, and thank you for your appreciations.

Winston answering your question of the plans, these are some of those that have served me for the construction of my model, as you can see they are not very complete ... but it is the best that I could find.

Thanks to the colleagues who have collaborated and especially my friend and colleague Leopoldo Garcia Echeveste, naval modeller, scholar and extraordinary draftsman, I have compiled enough to start this constructive process of the Viking Ship of Gokstad

Leopoldo has provided me with a number of drawings and sketches, as well as a large number of images of the model exhibited at the Museo Naval de Madrid donated by King Oscar II of Sweden and Norway in 1892, being deposited at the institution by order of the Queen Regent . It was exhibited at the American Historical Exhibition in Madrid, where it was recognized on November 11, 1892 (images that accompany it).

Wood materials - 12cm x 147cm x 32cm - 56448cm3
Dimensions - length147cm / Sleeve 32cm / strut 12cm

Notes: Scale representation of a Viking ship found in 1881 in a burial mound in GOKSTAD, Sandejjor (Norway). Probably it served as a burial to a Scandinavian chief ...

Comrade Maarten I can assure you that my Viking Ship will not accompany me on my last voyage ... it will remain as a memory for the enjoyment of my children and grandchildren ...

The Viking Navigation of Gokstad ... with these last images I put an end to this seemingly simple project, but nothing much further ... you have given me a lot to think about, but today seeing it finished compensates the effort and gives me a pleasant feeling.

With renewed energy and enough strength to start a new project ... very soon we will begin the construction of "La Santisima Trinidad 1796/1805" (last reform)

Greetings and thanks again. Liberto
