I feel like a dope; just finished the keel prep and have three head scratchers.

1, They ask for the piece glued to the keel end (can't recall the part name) that the rudder will mount to be tapered. Is that to match the taper on the keel cause by the wide rabbit and thinner keel at that point?

2. they ask for the edge of the keel at the bow to be tapered. This will wipe out the rabbit edge and no mention of how far to carry the tapper.
Hull planks would have nothing to mate to.

3. I dry fitted the bulk heads. The lower edge where it tapers down to the keel covers part of the rabbit. Some of them cover the whole rabbit. I understand that the hull plank should fit in the rabbit to make a smooth transition. I'm pretty certain that the rabbit should not be moved toward the keel edge; would run out of material. Only other option I can see would be to fair the bulk head edge to a point above the rabbit. This seems like a nasty job to get all bulkheads faired to each other after changing the shape.

Suggestions please. Thanks

Good afternoon,

It would be very helpful to mention which kit you're building; Billing Boats offers Bluenose kits in two scales, Model Shipways has a 1:64 scale kit, Artesania also offers a BN kit and there is of course the YQ POF model. Adding a few pictures of the areas in question or from the drawings could be very helpful in answering your questions.

Kind regards, Johan

First the model in question. Model Expo kit#ms2130. 3/16" = 1'

I figured out what is needed on the rudder. All good.
Attached are pics. One showing the bulkhead covering the rabbit. I'm thinking the low end will require reshaping. Could be messy.

I cut a test piece of stock the same thickness as the keel and carved rabbits both sides. The laid a piece of plank in the rabbit. If 3/32" is removed from each side as the print calls for, only 3/32" will remain. Also the plank ends (termination point) will be exposed. This one I haven't figured out.
Someone must have worked through this. Would love hearing from them.
Thanks

Thanks, the info you provided helped a lot.
As far as the rebate is concerned, that should be maintained over the entire length of the keel, upto the dead wood. The only exception being at the transom (stern) where it's physically impossible to have a rebate.
There's a lot written abote the Bluenose rebate, the section group builds/ Bluenose p.o.f. Group Build has quite a few build logs addressing this topic. Look amongst ithers at @Heinrich's and @Peter Voogt 's build logs.
