Re; your post #36 above, a couple of comments. From a strictly ship modeling standpoint, your workshop will depend on the kind of models that you intend to build. Scratch building will create much more dust, shavings, etc than kit building.
I do have a table away from the walls of my shop. My present ship modeling project is rigidly fixed to it. It is important that both the table and model be level. (Make sure that your contractor carefully levels your shop floor) The table is made using metal legs for a power tool stand. The top can be made from any sheet stock as long as it’s flat. I’m not bashful about drilling holes in the top as they are easily plugged later. I do not worry about dust control for work done at the table as I make subassemblies on my workbench and fit to them to the model on the table.
Finally, my planer can quickly create a wheelbarrow full of dust and shavings. It is, therefore, on a separate stand so that it can be wheeled outdoors.
