Building model kits for 50 years, including plastic ships and buildings for my model railroad, I finally decided to give wooden model ships a go.
In my modeller youth, the kits were just to overwhelming but with site like this and all their shared knowledge of the members, I believe I will be fine.
My first build is the Artesania Latina cross section of the HMS Victory. Nothing exciting for this forum, but it should give me an idea if I like cutting wood sticks and sanding it for hours is my thing.

After 50 years of modeling, you’ll be more prepared than you think. The jump from plastic to wooden ships feels intimidating at first, but your experience with precision, patience, and following plans will translate really well.
The Artesania Latina HMS Victory cross section is actually a smart first choice. Cross sections let you focus on framing, planking, and detail work without committing to a full hull build. And yes — you’ll quickly discover whether cutting, fitting, and sanding tiny strips of wood for hours is your thing
