.....but not new to modelling. I have just started building the Occre Revenge (well 3 - 4 weeks in) but have been building RC planes for years so alot of techniques and tools transfer across. I have got to the stage of finishing the first planking layer and just need to tidy up the gun ports etc before I start the final layer. I have spent a few hours reading and taking in planking techniques!!

One tool I didn't realise was so useful are the cabinet scrapers - wish I had found these many moons ago. They - for me - are better at removing precise areas plus they seem to give a better finish than sanding

Anyway - attached are some images of progress so far

Welcome to SoS. I agree that scrapers have a definite place in finishing hulls and decks, including small ones like stiff backed razor blades or box cutter blades.

Welcome to the forum Mark. You obviously have some skills. Maybe your first ship, but not your first build. Looks great so far.
 
Welcome! The OcCre Revenge is a good kit to start off with when you have model buiklding experience and need to develop your planking and rigging skills. Like the use of scrapers to level deck planks, there are other techniques and tools applicable to wooden model shipbuilding which can bring a starter model to the intermediate level with minimal effort. Just read other build logs on the forum, focusing on those that feature the same ship you are building. Also take a look at the logs for those who built the Amati (Vanguard) Revenge, especially if you want to add some details or change some features to your liking. The paint scheme and shape and location of the wales are two outstanding features that vary among Revenge model buiders. Both models are very similar in most respects.
