Hi, guys, my name is Steve and I'm from the UK
This looks an awesome site I have just been gifted a Constructo 1/94 HMS Victory kit upon boning up on this scale of model I was concerned that everywhere I looked I was seeing the same message that being "Avoid this scale if your new to modelmaking" or "This model is not for first-time modellers". But it is what it is and I am where I am, so I have been building my arsenal of tools to tackle this what seems like a gargantuan challenge, So this awesome site and you guys out there are about to become my new best friends,

Welcome onboard SOS, Steve. We are glad you have found us and wishing you Good luck!! :) If you newer build ship models before, Victory is not something we would recommend to a novice, for sure. But...if you will start a build log, we will try to help you for sure...

Hallo Steve,
with the challenge the experience will increase ....... we will try to help you as much as possible.
The best will be, that you start a building log, and with showing your progress we can discuss the working steps and comment and help whenever necessary and requested. The Victory will be a long journey, but you will not go alone - we all are with you and assist you.
BTW: A warm welcome here on board of our friendly forum
 
Thank you still getting all the peripherals sorted out so hopefully will be starting soon been very busy on Amazon and eBay I'm nearly there though;)

Not to worry. My gift of a wooden ship kit has led me down the same path. After the first OMG moment, then finding this forum, well all I can say is I'm now working on my fourth kit and excitedly awaiting the arrival of the fifth kit. There is a lot of help here on any subject, methods or tool that you might need.

Thanks, Jim but it's a 1/94, not 1/96 haha think it may be your eyesight that needs looking at and I wouldn't say 1/94 is small at nearly 43 inches/1100mm long, thank you for the warm welcome mate

Dear Steve; Jim is talking about scale and 1:94 is Small and is nit picky with human fingers. Nearly anything you do with the model will require micro tools to arrange and position and tie and glue and wipe is what Jim is saying. The Victory was a Big Boat and while 1100mm may seem large to you it is small to work on because the original was so big and your working at 1/100th of it in size. Your finger will be like huge cargo load at that scale.
But you will have a lot of help here. There are a lot of guys that can help you so good modeling! and Welcome
 
Welcome to a great hobby and to this super helpful forum. Just remember that we all were new to our first build. So take your time. No matter how big or small the kit the build is alway one part at a time. Concentrate on the one part then go to the next! Any and all questions are welcome. Above all else have fun!

Thank you Balac I understand now and everything you say is spot on I have sausage fingers anyway and it is proving tricky

Thanks, Daniel yes definitely baby steps are the order of the day it's my first foray into modelling Ie don't make it easy on myself with this kit but ill persevere cheers mate
 
Actually in my opinion a larger model is easier to work w as the parts and more area to work w is easier. I always prefer a larger ship. The main point is to enjoy your build and have fun w it. Don’t be intimidated by it. ALL ships have the basic same concept and construction techniques.
