Nuestra Senora del Pilar by Occre - Build log

Yea after I completed my Beagle from OcCre I am sticking to aftermarket dead eyes and also blocks and rigging line as well, because the line is very fluffy looking on the ship and you will notice it a lot on your pictures. I am currently purchasing mine from ModelExpo and have not had any major problems so far.

quick update on my build log - Finished installing the lower sets of deadeyes. Built the skiff/lifeboat. It had to be planked too. Oar pins will be installed on the skiff once the danish oil has cured.

Bui;d Log: Nuestra Senora del Pilar (OcCre, 1:46)

Started work on the bow spirit. First it had to be tapered. 12mm on one end and down to 9 mm on the other. Marked the length with a pencil then turned a flat at the small end that was 9mm diameter. Then slowly tapered the dowel using turning tools, followed by sanding blocks down to 320 grit. The whole procedure was done on a lathe with a collet system installed to safely hold the dowel.

Removed the dowel from the lathe and cut to length with a razon saw. Once that was accomplished, I cut wedges to install as gammon stops/keepers and then glued them into place per the 1/1 drawings OcCre provided. After they dried sufficiently, I gave the bow spirit a quick coat of clear brushing lacquer.

Then I proceeded with wrapping the dowel with turns of 0.5mm dia. cordage at the designated distances.

I temporarily inserted the bow spirit in place for photos. Still a lot more to do before actually installing the bow spirit and it's yard.

Let me know if you have any questions or comments. Much obliged!
